I think you've hit the nail on the head with your second point, Hoddle and Townsend are absolutely abysmal co-commentators. I think you've made him guilty by association.

Nick Pope starts ahead of Henderson every day of the week for me. Henderson still has some very obvious floors that need improving before he’s considered international quality. His position for one, especially on one on ones, is poor.
People need to realise, Henderson isn’t the reason for our great defensive record this season, it’s our structure and our defence. They limit the big chances team has significantly. Sure he’s made some great saves and been very good for us, but the saves are what any top keeper should make and Nick Pope is better.
I'd favour Pope over Henderson aswell, but I'm happy as long as it's not Pickford between the sticks.
Yeah it should probably be Pope for the short to medium term with Henderson being his successor and his #2 for now. But like you say, just not Pickford.

If Southgate took 4 CBs in his 23 man squad next year, 2 older, more experienced, and 2 younger CBs, who is your backup experienced CB to Maguire?
I think Maguire and Gomez are two basically guaranteed for the squad, but the other two are very much open. Whoever has the better season out of Tomori and Tuanzebe could quite easily take the fourth spot imo, but who is your experienced backup to Maguire?
