Ballack is brilliant at CDM specifically due to his size the amount of interceptions he gets is impressive. It's not on the same level as Blanc but he offers much more than that.
I did try him as a more box to box player as he is almost wasted as a holding midfielder but his model suits the holding role much better.

In the season 08/09 they won 15 out of 22 games drew 5 and only lost one game. Which made them finish 3rd. After they sacked Scolari.

My personal favorite is still Makelele PIM.
But Zanetti, Blanc, Vieira, even Keane are all on one level with specific pros and cons.
