I did many gold upgrades and this year is really helpfull with the first owner objectives. My best pulls so far:

And some 83/84 rated and informs players. Not bad at all!
The weight in them has been drastically reduced compared to a couple of weeks ago, pretty much in line with when more people started completing them for first owner objectives tbh.
It’s kinda like what EA do with packweights during major promos.

I packed otw haller from them and it got me hooked. Since basically nothing. Militao, parejo and cavani.
Edit: well. I thought I build a few more. Wanted an epl scream card. Just packed mbappe. I didn’t see the walkout light. Thought maybe Ben yedder. Then saw psg and thought who is French ST and not mbappe? Buzzing.

Yep, they are really done for free and maybe a little profit. I could make a lot more profit if I didn't do them but it doesn't take much effort.
Check the prices before you use them, some common golds are going for a few thousand.
