Good article. It was the other way around for me. Had a major problem with gambling when I was younger and then when ultimate team came about my addictive personality took hold of me.
Always thought gaming companies should adopt the same approach as the gambling industry and allow you to set up spending limits on your account. Seems a no brainer.

‘We all want a quiet life’. No mate, not all of us do. Some of us cherish every moment we get with our kids. Some of provide boundaries to help them become well rounded people. Some of us actually miss the noise and commotion when the kids aren’t about.
I don’t like FP or any form of micro transactions within a game but he basically may as well have written I was a bit of a shoddy parent.
It's no shock that it can teach gambling behaviours to kids who don't know any better, even if they open packs with coins earned in game, it's still the same mentality.
Both goups blaming a 3rd group for their shortcomings. You love to see it.
OR
An industry exploiting the vulnerabilities of young people, that includes not just children but young adults.
Some like the loot boxes and gambling mechanics in games and some don't. The question is, is the industry surrounding it regulated correctly, to protect the consumer.

It's not that black and white though is it. For the sake of what your saying, What a bout the kid who has a bad IQ that was a result of bad parenting?
It's not their fault
No, but also yes.
You just can't blame someone else all the time. Parents gotta set up parental control settings if their kids really can't be trusted. If they don't do that then the parents are to blame.
Instead these parents don't want to admit that they failed and so they try to shift the blame.
Gaming leading to their kids playing huge amounts of online roulette or poker? The only link I can think off it the Zidane 360 turn in Fifa.
I am a parent myself. This to me sounds like poor parenting.
So you have no problem with an unregulated system where a kid or even an adult can spend all the money they can get hold of on a video game for a game of chance?
The addiction doesn't even have to lead to sports or casino gambling, being addicted to spending money on packs is bad enough.
How many people on here can admit they have spent more than they should have on fifa points?
I don't mean it's made you bankrupt or that you wasted your inheritance on fifa points, but how many of us have spent say £20 on a whim when you didn't really want to?
I have in the past, on fifa 15 I spent £50 on packs when I really shouldn't have when money was tight. Even though its was only £50 it was money I shouldn't have spent.
If that is needed it says it all.parents should be able to not monitor their kids on a 3 plus game and not activate any controls
The fact that EA have still put loot boxes in Fifa this year after all that has gone on says it all,it shows how much they care about the welfare of children
The fact that they also have full control of what is in these lootboxes and can change pack weights anytime they wish is boarderline criminal.

You don't need parentla controls on the game, you need them on the console lol.
Kids can't spend thousands unless some moron grants them access to a credit card.

You can attribute your comment to literally anything. Too much fast food, too many sweets, too much food in general. All things to be enjoyed in moderation.
As a parent it’s your responsibility for your children to not let them eat too many sweets. Or do you want that looked after for you too?
As an adult there’s a million and one things you’re responsible for. That’s just life. Can’t just go removing everything because if you don’t use in moderation in can be harmful.
Right now until a proper law is brought in looboxes and any microtransactions should be hidden by default in under 18 games and they have to be activated in a menu.Maybe activated by a credit card or something
Because right now its at the forefront of everything, you search for games on the PSN store in deals and its stuffed full of virtual currency
If it is hidden away and needed to be activated it could help the problem,i dunno maybe its a bad idea i haven't thought it through
Sony,MS and Ninendo could do more about this rather than just saying about disclosing odds
Well let's hope UK gets on board and ban loot boxes, it's bad enough paying 60 for a game and then paying out more.
It's one of the biggest gaming scams going and it will be stopped eventually in time and then we will got back to real gaming where you earn it and not pay for it.
I'm a FUT founder and I've never bought fifa points and i don't gamble and i've known its gambling since day 1 despite being quite young when it first came out. I hate the idea of FP not just because of what it does to people but it gives headstarts and boosts and i dont like the idea of a pay to win system but EA will keep doing it until they are stopped as it makes them millions. And when they are stopped, people like me will be hit more as EA won't stop there, they will find another way to raid wallets by bringing out another system maybe making us pay for each "season" for FUT like battle passes in fortnite...i feel this fifa is the opening of that with the new seasons structure to UT.

And what if the parents aren't tech savvy?
It's more than Black and White.
You have no choice but to be. That’s if you want to play an active role in their lives because that’s what they’re are brought up with, especially in school. And it’s only right as it’s the world we live in now.
Do people think the only issue is young kids getting hold of a parents credit card?
Idiotic if so.
It's about the game of chance of opening packs that gives the player a rush. The addictive nature of opening packs, not solely the money lost.
You see as a man who likes a gamble I just don’t understand this. It’s just not the same thing.
It's 100% the same thing, it's exactly the same behaviour as gambling even if no real money is used.
Work hard and earn coins, gamble coins on the very very slim chance of making more coins. The only reason people open packs is in the hope of getting something of value back.

Be fair, not just EA, the gaming industry as a whole including mobile apps
Needs to be illegal.
See how EA will abandon FUT if that happens.
But it wont money talks in this terrible world

Kids that severely lack IQ

Unfortunately there is many who play fifa who spend way more than they can afford to.
The sooner fifa points are banned, the better. I hope the UK follows Belgium and bans fifa points.

Fifa points and PTW in UT is a cancer.
