Anybody else feeling completely insulted by the lack of progress career mode has made?

I spent £79.99 on this game with promises of a revamped career mode. A more immersive version of the career mode editions that we've had in the past. But no, we've got absolutely nothing new, in fact it's a step backwards. How can anyone using FIFA have any modicum of trust in EA after this? It's a shameful blatant attempt to push users away from career mode and towards Ultimate Team, because after all, that's where EA gets their money from. Well... after defrauding you of £59.99+ on release day.

A whole calendar year. That's how long EA have had to improve this game, to satisfy everyone who has been and has become committed to playing football games. That's enough time to fix things that could be improved. Hell, several reddit users have written their own code fixing the game. But EA won't use it. Why? Because it's not part of their prerogative. I've tried to get a refund from Sony and said no, and that's fine. I shouldn't have forked out the money in the first place, I should have waited to see the reviews come in.

It's embarrassing that I've spent my own hard-earned money on this game.

It's humiliating that I spend my time actively looking to see if career mode has been fixed.

It's disturbing that EA have had a year to fix, progress and test their game modes and didn't.

This will be the last FIFA I buy. I hope that governments everywhere start to crack down on the exploitation of teenagers, the exposure that young people are having on a financially null game. Once those FIFA points are in the bank, they never come back out. No FIFA 21 squad loyalty for Ultimate Team after spending money on this year's edition, just a gaping hole that they become desperate to fill because EA have managed to (very deliberately) get teenagers hooked on gambling.

EA's lack of morals, ethics and honesty is an absolute disgrace.

Deleting people's suggestions to other users to get a refund.

Refusing to acknowledge responsibility for their own game not being tested.

Rotten to the core.

    You are totally right @gmatt975

I've seen people saying the game shouldn't be on sale etc, but with FUT etc still happening, it isn't something they'd consider and not really something I agree with.

The only real action needed is the urgent address of all CM issues in it's own individual update.

I was one who stated I wouldn't buy this FIFA etc, but with the exciting information given to us about new CM features, I bought it.

Completely regret it and was a waste of £50 !

I bought online for the year as well so I can play FUT, just so I can play the latest game, which was another £50 !

Offline is in the gutter and they need to sort it.

The game was built on CM and is just upsetting a much larger community than we and they first thought.

The backlash and comment on all EA posts is very evident and they must fix it.

I really do think now this is my last FIFA, I've had enough.

Given that EA's own pre-launch hype was about how much investment & improvements had gone into re-launching CM in Fifa 20 its staggering that this part of the game is so hugely flawed. I almost exclusively play CM mode & have no issue that it wasn't EA's primary focus in past versions & found glitches like Petr Chek wearing his head protector in contract negotiations hilarious & didn't detract from my enjoyment of CM.
But how EA cannot be hugely embarrassed by the dogs breakfast they've served up in CM this year after so much self hype only they know.
I hope there is patch to at least put right the major bugs in Fifa 20 CM, but regardless Fifa 20 will be my last after this debacle

Last FIFA for me. Will buy PES later this year.
  • Pretty sure this is my last FIFA iteration, and I've purchased 10-12 versions, going back to PS1, and the last 8 versions. Only reason I bought this, as I was on the fence, was the promised and overdue adjustments to CM.

Further, depending upon how long or even IF fixes take - schedulin bug saw me playing back to back FA Cup and Champs League finals in '19 - so that was never corrected last year, no faith it will this - will determine whether or not I ever buy another EA title for less than half price ever.

Bad enough to play other games they've cut support for and abandoned (Mass Effect Andromeda anyone?) - figured FIFA was such a cash cow they'd at least make the MVP - Minimally Viable Product - for offline modes. Oops.

Loot box bans can't come fast enough. As an old guy, can only imagine a gaming world of next gen consoles and companies that focus on building quality games to ensure customer satisfaction, as opposed to games like FIFA or Battlefront II built almost entirely focused on MTX's.

It sucks they abandoned Mass Effect Andromeda, from what I could tell it didn't even do that badly, it sold pretty well but it's reception to the animations were not so great, they fixed that up but EA just weren't having it or something. I've heard it's not the last we've seen of Mass Effect but it's going to be awhile.

I'd suggest trying out CDProjektRed games if you haven't already, they seem to have a good ethic in regards to games, I personally love that The Witcher 3 had no DRM yet sold silly well, it shows companies like EA & Ubisoft up when they insist on having draconian style DRM yet a game with no DRM is just like "pow, millions sold" but unfortunately they are only one of a few.

As for FUT, well I think FUT could actually be a lot better if there weren't a pay2win element to it, nor a microtransaction element to it, but of course we can't expect EA to want to give up a cash-cow like that. To be fair most companies wouldn't once they have experienced the increase cash-flow, although the least they could do with all that extra revenue is direct it towards bettering the game as a whole, as it is they've sort of went with a "maximise profits from FUT, let the rest of the game burn to the ground" philosophy, which sucks beans.
  • Agreed. This career mode is an absolute joke!! EA WHERE IS MY REPLY??????? I want my money back!!!

Very well stated mate. I feel the exact same way. My last FIFA I buy outright. From here on out I wait to see the reviews and what people are saying, cant believe the hype anymore.

I've been a loyal Fifa fan since 1997 and have purchased every single one. The past few years my patience has been running thin because of the career mode neglect. I dont play FUT but I still purchase the Ultimate edition in order to get it early sonI can play career mode. There is absolutely no point and I feel like an idiot. At this point I might as well wait until a few months after release to see if CM is still broken as usual.

I am honestly considering giving up on this game, after all these years of loyalty, EA simply seems to not give a flying **** about me or others like me. I dont want to hear excuses from these guys or EA supporters, fix the d*mn mode already, and make sure it works before you release it. This is basically a cash grab that career mode players keep falling for. They pay so much attention to FUT, its so obvious that they put little to no effort into pleasing CM players. This is some BS!

Every year its the same story with this mode. I am fed up and this may very well be the last year for me.
  • I finally stopped buying EA’s crap products. This is the first year in my life I haven’t bought Madden and never will again and I’m so happy I didn’t. Next year will be the first year I don’t buy FIFA and I have a strong feeling I’m not going to regret that decision either. Thanks EA!

As many here, I was on the fence for FIFA 20 this year for a long time, to the point that I was going to swing back to PES but based on the promises (lies) EA put out about this game, I took the chance.

    How very wrong was I.

CM is broken, AI is a joke.
    Pro Clubs AI is broken
Pro Clubs CAM glitch STILL not fixed since FIFA19 Day 1.
FUT Squad Battles are still a “scam”

The above are just some of the many issues.

The main issue is, not enough people report the business to trading standards and from looking at some historical cases of games from small developers that “missold a product or service” , successful claims have been made within the UK to Tradins Standards under the Consumer Rights Act. Most notably “No Mans Sky” and more recently (but in the US), Star Citizen refunds ranging from $2500 to $25000.

The promises (lies) made by EA in my view definitely tick the box of misleading the general public over features within a product that are either not present or not as described, to make matters worse, they still advertise the game with said features despite admitting that certain features do not work as intended.

Now knowing EA_Andy and his stance on any legal matters on the forums, this thread will likely get closed. However, just so it’s in writing, I am not discussing legal matters here, I am merely pointing out the correlation between this product and another. No advice on legal issues given, so should you lock this thread EA_Andy based on my post, then once again we will see your abuse of power. How about you engage with your community constructively instead of getting a hard-on with your privileges. Stand and be counted for once! You don’t actually manage the community, you managed negative PRESS that could potentially damage the EA brand... the downside is the only brand you are damaging is your own.

As somebody that works for/with a developer, if I ever saw your credentials on a future application for employment, I’d throw it in the bin and cite your lack of professionalism on this very forum. If you want to know “who” I represent, by all means, look me up. (Hint, we’re based in Scotland and use chilled beam lighting throughout our studios and our MTX system is just as insulting, at least our core games are good -subjective I know)

Back on track, I will outline a post on here and other notable forums/platforms on the correct procedure in reporting this game, but it pretty much relies on momentum to get anywhere and in this case... only would represent users within the UK.

Looking forward to NOT buying FIFA again. You’ve (EA) burned your bridges this year, not just with the consumers, but with other professionals out there.

As somebody that’s been playing since FIFA1998 RTWC....this is possibly the worst iteration in terms of misrepresentation ever released and compounded by the fact you have still not fixed bugs that were present in FIFA19.... at least we’re upfront with people about how we rip them off in Scotland and know how to fix our games.... do you?
  • I wouldn't say i feel insulted because i totally predicted it, after checking the hyped yet superficial news about the mode, during the summer. The only thing i didn't predict was that it would actually get worse/bordeline unplayable.

Each day i touch it i find new unbelieavable flaws, from major issues (easy gameplay, even on Ultimate, compaired with older versions) to minor yet stupid changes (eg. noticing yesterday that academy players editing is now restricted to generic boots, God knows why).

When you start imagining were this mode could have moved to (online turn based modes for you to compete with your friends, stadium/sponsorship/kit development so you can make stories meaningfull) and compare it to what we ended up with it's very depressing.

But i wouldn't put 100% of the blame on EA, i would go as far as 90%.
10% i would allocate to the community itself, asking for meaningless features like pre-match conferences. EA decided to pick that one (it was an easy pick, they had done it already for The journey) and just turned into something that just messes up with your gaming experience, with no depth, no complexity, no fun whatsoever, just another reason for you to regret the day you invested time and emotions on a progressively flawed and disconsidered gaming mode.
  • ❤️❤️❤️❤️. This game is getting shittier every day. First its barcelona and juventus and now I notice that the allianz arena isn’t there like wtf ea!! And let’s not forget that you still don’t have license for the serie a and have license for ❤️❤️❤️❤️ leagues that no one care about like mls. Oh and to add more the game isn’t even complete by the release date with all these problems especially in the career mode. Honestly every year I get hyped for the new fifa and every year I usually get bored by the end of may or june but this year I’m getting bored and don’t want to play within one week of the game being released. I really don’t think I’ll be buying anymore fifa in the upcoming year untill the game start to release without any issues and also having full license to all 5 big leagues. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ off fifa.🖕🏻🖕🏻

EA didn't say this year's career mode was the finished article. They'll be adding bigger and better features in the future so anyone thinking that the career mode in Fifa 20 was revamped then you've hyped yourself up too much, which is understandable, but there is much more to come in the future. I think the career mode team only fully came together in June this year and I hear it's a big team as well.

What I can't defend EA on though is that they released the game with so many game-breaking bugs for career mode that really is shameful and they should refund people as they stated on Pitch Notes that they fixed the AI fielding weak teams. If just one person buys the game simply because they've ''fixed'' it and on release date it's not then it's false advertising.

I bought the game a few days after release fully knowing the issues, but I just started a career in LaLiga 2nd division. Gameplay feels like Fifa 19 after patch..which is not bad..but just feels like I'm playing Fifa 19. It'll get me through to next year when I get Fifa 21 on PS5.

I'd suggest trying out CDProjektRed games if you haven't already,

The combat and worlds were brilliant, but the faces and various glitches were terrible. Further, the story was just bad. I described it to a a friend "If the first three ME games were the Star Wars OT, than ME:A is The Phantom Menace". I've played Mass Effect 1->3 through probably four or five times, finishing at the horrific end of ME3 and going all the way back to the first game and going again with a different class and try different decisions.

CDPR - so far above EA or any other dev, not worth sullying their name in this forum. Look at all the free stuff - quests, cosmetic items - they just gave away for Witcher III. When it finally came to charging people for DLC, well, Blood and Wine was better than most full price games I've purchased. And for $8 cheaper than a digital melee weapon in Call of Modern WarDuty.

IN the mean time, Jim Sterling just opened fire on FIFA20 in a rant so laced with NSFW language that I have to post a link rather than embed the mini window as that contains naughty words itself. Rhymes with "Spitshow"

    https://youtu.be/vfaWizfi4FA

  • weird, just posted a link, it auto-embedded the very frame with naughty (but very accurate) words I was hoping to avoid.
  • Imagine releasing a game with a game mode that's literally in it's alpha state, and 10 days after pre-release still not updating any bugs lmfao.

I agree with what has been said. I wasn't going to buy FIFA 20 until it was fixed but I did so as I got a discount (£37.99) and I saw a few Mods coming out. Which has resulted in me being able to play with the latest transfers, and further mods which let you play as the actual Manager, Lampard in my case. The CL is sorted and Europa. Many other mods where you can do changes with more coming.

Even with the mods I wasn't totally sold until I tried some sliders from Operation Sports. For me now the game is close to Pes's gameplay and I'm sure it will get better. I own Pes as well but can't fully get into it even with it's excellent gameplay. Mind you even Konami need to fix one or two isues with that like Player reaction time. It is far too slow.

But for me FIFA is playable and I'm enjoying it with mods but don't get me wrong for EA to sell a game that has this many bugs is unforgivable and then needed third party mods to sort most of it is unforgivable also. I hope it is fixed soon as it is embarrassing for EA as a company to release a game in that state, there should be a body set up to fine companies that do this.

I definitely didn’t expect them to completely overhaul career mode because they have shown a blatant neglect of that mode for years now. I think I speak for a lot of people here but the only thing I was expecting from them was for them to fix all those little problems only because they themselves came out and said they did in fact fix those issues. That’s not much to ask for at all especially considering as you pointed out, they are the ones that said things like scheduling congestion was fixed for example which was just a lie I guess. Or they’re so incompetent they actually think they did fix it when of course they really didn’t. I’d rather them be incompetent as opposed to them being liars but that’s just picking your poison at this point. And that’s just one example. There are others they said they’d fix that have existed for years now which still aren’t fixed.

Remember we are talking about a company that used to buy their favourable reviews and awards before the game even came out. A company that thinks it is OK for children to Gamble with other peoples money in fut. EA won't fix anything unless they have to as regards to CM anyway.

Luckily they have been called out so I think they will address these issues but I would not be surprised if they didn't. People should never stop complaining (if it is justified) but I would say to the PC owners check out the mods for FIFA, it will make the game playable.

Let’s be honest guys, they don’t care. The sooner they can get rid of CM and force everyone onto UT, the better- from £A’s POV. CM has been put in the hands of a dev team completely out of their depth, which says it all.

I haven’t bought fifa 20, I got early access, played 2 hours of it and have wanted to go back it’s that bad. You know what, I feel great because of it. EA won’t be getting another penny off me until they fix this garbage.

For those who have bought the game, get early access next year and don’t part with your cash until you know the game is worth it. Otherwise you’re part of the problem.

What's worse is that FUT is also in shambles right now and so they're likely way too busy working on that then worrying about Career Mode.

The problem with Career Mode is it's far more complex than UT. Career Mode is entirely reliant on AI programming. UT is just pushing background data around based on human decision making.

There's no word on exactly how many people are developing Career Mode. To stay on-top of it and improve on it needs a dedicated team or individual to be working on it all the time, people who understand it and how it's programmed.

What's very telling is the bugs that worked their way in (over previous years) and have yet to be removed... if the people working on career mode is constantly changing it's no surprise that it all starts to fall apart over time.
