We shouldn't go for Zaha he would be a back up in our time right now.

This will be a big season for Holding, Torreira, Xhaka, Ceballos and Ozil.

If Holding doesn't do well we need to go all out on a CB
If Torriera doesn't do well we should go big on a CDM
If Xhaka or Ceballos don't perform we should go for a deep lying playmaker
If Ozil does what he usually does we should go all out on a CAM

Next season he wouldn't be a backup. We need another winger now I think, if we offload Miki too.

We can't have an amazing front 3, but then a bunch of youngsters as backup. We need 1 more top quality attacking player, no matter how much I rate our youth.

But we shouldn't be spending £60m or so on depth when we need to improve other areas of our starting 11.
To be honest our defence is looking good if Holding can do the business we don't need to invest much in it apart from a back up RB and LB. It's central midfield the issue lies.

Auba, Laca, Pepe are the front 3, Zaha will want to play and he doesn't get in front of them. Back ups we will have Nketiah coming back from a full season at Leeds hopefully he bangs 20+ goals in the Championship, Nelson will get a good chance this season off the bench and in cup games. I guess we need a LW but who knows Saka could fill that spot, may have Mkhitaryan for another year if we cannot shift him

It's not 60m though is it really? Its just replacing Iwobi with an extra 20m. I already think we are down to bear bones in attack, if we offload Miki next summer too, then we need a quality attacking player who can rotate and do a job.

I agree maybe not 60m, but if Zaha is available still and cheaper then it would make sense as we haven't got any natural left wingers at the club.

Ideally we would being in someone who can play LW or AM, like a Coutinho.

dont think it had anything to do with it

arsenal went for easier targets, we went for premier league players or world class ones that either couldnt happen or cost alot. i mean they did pay 70m for a player who has only done it for 1 season

its not as if arsenal went for maguire he would have cost less or if we went for luiz he would have been 20m

Well no, we went for Upamecano, but he was too expensive so we ended up with an alternative.

You just ended up paying the expensive price.

That's fair enough, but one way or another it hindered your ability to sign an attacking player, whereas we've ended up signing players in every position we required more or less.

Easier targets? Or realistic targets that massively improve our side? Nicolas Pepe would’ve improved your side in a big way and you know it.

Uniteds problem year in year out was going for “world class players” who just wanted big bucks and took you for a ride. Di Maria, Falcao, Ibra to some extent Pogba. The list is literally endless.

Maybe if you went for “easier targets” then you would’ve got them. However I don’t see a full back from Crystal Palace, a centre back from Leicester city, a young nobody from Swansea City, a midfielder from Newcastle United, a midfielder from sporting Lisbon, a 33 year old Croatian peter crouch and an underperforming number 10 not wanted by their club, as difficult targets 😂😂

Your management is just horrific, ours is world class, simple as that.

Arsenal’s insta story - Tierney says to Holding he’s 6 weeks away from being fully fit.

So likely to not have Holding, Tierney and Bellerin until after the international break.

    Meaning a back line of

    AMN - Sokratis - Luiz - Monreal/Kola

Is what we’ll play vs Pool away and spurs at home. Ooof.

I'm relatively confident we'll lineup with a back 3 for the first 2 games at least.

That's until Pepe, Torreira and Holding/TIerney are fit again.

Maitland-Niles seems to do better in the big games anyway. Concentration is his main problem as a defender- he isn't alert enough. Against Liverpool and Spurs it's pretty hard not to be. I think it's a similar case with Luiz- made mistakes against lesser teams, but put in a world class performance against City. I think we have a chance against Spurs and Liverpool, even with that defence.

    Leno
    Chambers Sokratis Monreal
    AMN Cebellos Xhaka Kolasinic
    Ozil
    Auba Laca

    Martinez
    Luiz
    Willock
    Torreira
    Mhky
    Nelson
    Pepe

Is how I see the first game going. Maybe Willock in for Ozil.

Should have enough to get the job done vs Newcastle and Burnley. That bench is quite strong.

don't see Ceballos starting the first couple of games. definitely out for the first game i'd imagine as he didn't play much in pre-season and picked up a knock before the Barca game. I think Willock will start for sure after his impressive pre-season- Emery did this with Guendouzi last season. Much like Torreira last season, Ceballos and Pepe will probably have to earn their place by featuring off the bench a couple of times before they start.

I think we'll play the exact same team as the Barca game, except Laca in for Nelson as long as he's fit.

Is there a reason Guendouzi isn't being mentioned for a start? Was class at the start of last season iirc

Came back to pre-season a little late, so won't be as fit as Willock or Xhaka. Also, if i'm honest his performance level dropped a little after the start of last season. He'll still feature a lot, but probably won't be used as a starter in the prem quite so frequently.

He didn't start in our last pre-season game, which i expect he would've done if Emery was planning to play him at the weekend

Pepe off the bench against Newcastle, then starts against Burnley.
Ceballos off the bench against Newcastle, Burnley and starts against Liverpool
    David Luiz starts against Burnley

    Willock starts against Newcastle
Nelson off the bench against Newcastle

isn't Ceballos suffering from a knock after the Lenglet tackle last weekend? Think I read somewhere that Emery said he was going to miss a few days of training, not sure if he'll be ready physically yet for a start either. I think it'll be Willock and Xhaka, and Luiz might play instead of Chambers. Rest seems pretty bang on though.

just saw this :D agreed with all however wouldn't be surprised to see him go 3atb to cover for us still having our main fullbacks out, depends on if he wants to throw Luiz in straight away I suppose

I would throw Luiz in straight away. Hasn’t he had a full pre season? Can’t see us with Luiz, Ceballos and Pepe on the bench.

Either way I’m actually excited for the international break, after that Bellerin and Tierney will be back

From our first 4 games before the break I’m expecting 7 points. If we beat Liverpool or spurs I’d be pleasantly surprised.

Bellerin said 2 months to Ornstein in his interview yesterday apparently, think Holding and Tierney will be back towards the end of September hopefully for Man United away and then Bellerin mid/end of October time.

He's looked sharp in pre season but if that's our team I highly doubt the service into him will be great. Probably better just to go with Kane/Aguero for a few gameweeks.
