Good start so far, but I feel like we're going to lose if we continue missing these chances.

Don't have the twitter link this time. Here's the team:
    Pickford
    Walker - Gomez - Stones - Chilwell
    Dier
    Barkley - Delph
    Rashford - Kane - Sterling

    Solid

If only Sterling had a left foot, 2* in Fifa 20.

He has. You can really tell he plays for a Pep team.

Very poor from Dier there, have to close him down quicker than that, just stood and watched basically

Find those substitutions baffling - Rashford looked far more threatening than Sterling yet he's the one who comes off, and Delph gets brought off instead of Dier. Yeah the team would have lost something defensively but we need 2 goals, so it would have been worth the risk imo

I just don't see how Croatia deserve to go through if we draw 1-1. That -5 goal difference should be more important.

Good job lads, would of been so sad not to go through after such a good performance.

Know it sounds crazy but give Dean Henderson a chance to start. He is without a doubt the best goalkeeping prospect England have. The lad is phenomenally gifted.

    Pickford, Butland, Pope
    Walker, Rose, Trippier, Young, Alexander-Arnold
    Stones, Maguire, Jones, Cahill
    Delph, Henderson, Dier
    Loftus-Cheek, Alli, Sterling, Lingard
    Vardy, Welbeck, Rashford, Kane

This was the squad taken to the World Cup. Was thinking about this earlier, and was wondering what people thought was our best squad now? I think that quite a bit has changed selection wise since the World Cup, there are quite a few changes that could be made. Ignoring injuries for a minute, and just focusing on the best squad, what do people think is our best 23? There are obvious changes to make, like Shaw, Gomez and Sancho coming in, but there are more as well that could justify a place.

    The changes I'd make are:
    Shaw in, Young out
    Gomez in, Cahill out
    Sancho in, Welbeck out
    Rice in, Delph out.
    Smalling in, Jones out.
    Heaton in, Butland out
    Wan-Bissaka in, Trippier out

    Pickford, Pope, Heaton,
    Walker, Shaw, Rose, Wan-Bissaka, TAA
    Stones, Gomez, Maguire, Smalling
    Rice, Henderson, Dier
    Loftus-Cheek, Alli, Sterling, Lingard, Sancho
    Kane, Rashford, Vardy

What do you guys think of that squad? Anyone missing out that I've forgotten? (Each line is only grouped by position, they're not in order of selection or something)

No matter what, Heaton needs to start.

Given that Southgate's two preferred formations are 4-3-3 and 3-5-2, trying to keep it somewhat feasible I'd pick this team from the squad above:
    Heaton
    TAA - Gomez - Stones - Shaw
    Rice
    Alli - Loftus-Cheek
    Sterling - Kane - Rashford

Thoughts on that team? Found it a difficult choice about getting Sancho in the starting XI, but I think Southgate would want Kane in the XI hence had to leave someone out. I suspect he'd stick with Pickford as well, but like @Tornado31619 suggested I think Heaton deserves a chance

    That's a great squad but with one eye on the future I would have;

    Wan-Bissaka > Trippier
    Chilwell > Rose
    Lascelles > Smalling

God knows how we'll line up with that, I don't envy Southgate. We're spoilt for choice in every position, it's a weird feeling with England :joy:

**** I knew I forgot someone :D Yeah I'd have Wan-Bissaka in the squad instead of Trippier as well, he's quality already, plus Trippier hasn't been as good this season imo

And yeah I completely agree, a lot of options for him to choose from makes a nice change!

I'd drop Walker TBH, England might already have Trent but Trippier's free kicks are wicked.

Bring him on when you need pace in midfield.
