So heading into work today listening to bbc radio 5 live and they are discussing the dangers and problems associated with microtransactions. Low an behold the famous EA is mentioned on a number of occasions as using unethical means in order to encourage a form of gambling.
Now I've been playing EA games since the early fifas, im 30 years old I remember the days when games did not have these microtransactions plastered all over the place with a pay2win mentality being fuelled by extortionate amounts of money being spent. I also remember the days before EA completely destroyed a once legendary game in command and conquer. Ah the good ol days.
Anyway let's not get sidetracked, my genuine concerns are for the youth of today, this post isn't aimed at the 'It's my money and i spend my money on what i want' brigade. It's more aimed as a constructive discussion about the dangers that games such as fifa are creating for the youth of today.
Spending mom and dad's money like it's going out of fashion is this setting a dangerous precedent where people will grow up 1. Not necessarily understanding the value of money and 2. With that constant underlying desire to 'gamble' to potentially gain..
I'll end my post on the facts that MP's are openly looking to have regulators ban this kind of business model, it's already banned in Belgium apparently.
Your thoughts ? Parents? Uncle's/Aunties? Brothers? What do you guys think? Are concerns this day and age justified

Unfortunately it is the norm nowadays, it's very rare now that you can get a full game without having to pay extra at some point (IG purchases, DLC etc).
Gone are the days where you pay your money up front and get the full game, gaming's going downhill fast and while people keep buying these micro-transactions it's never going to stop.
I disagree. I love fortnites way of doing it. You don't get any gameplay advantages from spending money. Perfect for casuals.
The only positive in that sense is they didnt pay for the game, otherwise it’s ridiculous
They are as bad as each other, they both promote instant gratification and a transaction so quick and easy that even an adult can lose track of how much money is being spent.
In my opinion it's the parents responsibility be aware of what their children are doing, especially when gaming online.
My main concern is the habits these not transactions instil. In 10 years time when these FIFA/Fortnite kids are old enough, I can see a gambling epidemic.
I know EA can justify it not being gambling, but we all know it is.
But the bubble will burst eventually, once a celebrities kid does 5 grand in packs an it makes the news, action will be taken.
Nail on the head in my opinion mate. It's clearly going to have major ramifications when these guys have grown up. There is already just under half a million with a gambling addiction in this country (that's official statistics) so I can bet it's prob more like triple those numbers.
In my opinion something needs to be done and fast it's preying on vulnerable minds in my opinion and on that desire, that almost drug like high people get when they finally get something good. It's crazy how it can't be seen as gambling
Nah mate, I completely agree. Both forms are bad. It's terrible games are going towards this. But if microtranssctions are a must then I prefer the Fortnite version. Though, I do hope they're banned altogether.
Some on here try to defend the scam by talking about casinos and the lottery, if you want to compare FIFA to them then there should be an 18+ rating for FIFA 18.
