Yup,to reflect different players available as new players are added and promotions start

And to reflect optimizational changes to maximize EAs revenue. I’m excited to see if EA is going to be opaque about whether odds vary between players. (They won’t be)

Then why say you're 'excited' to see it?

It’s a big moment in the history of fut. I’m excited for plenty of things that probably won’t happen, including the day when Mdizzl3 openly criticizes EA.

2k have disabled the transfermarket and the possibility to buy coins in their game 2k19 to comply with the Belgium and Dutch laws.

What about Fifa? When EA decide to do the same we can't play FUT anymore... what do you guys think?

    Edit: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gaming/news/ea-faces-prosecution-belgium-fifa-19-loot-boxes/

Great idea, all countries should fight with gambling. It's just sad that people around still think that games like FIFA, NBA, NFL and others are made for player's fun....

No idea how this works, but couldnt the population of Belgium just change the location settings on the console to reactivate whatever is deactivated in their region..?

Again I am not too savvy in this department but I thought thats what people do regarding netflix in other countries and getting games early etc.

We are only 1 week left of the release on EA access and origin premium. Imo if there was any changes that were gonna be made then it was already communicated cause of stores who sells copies of the game.

Update: i just called EA headquarters here in Holland with my phone. The guy told me that we have nothing to worry about and in fact the story that has been told in the media what is happening in Belgium is not really 100% true. Belgium court said that nothing has changed but thats not true and was not written in the articles from a few days ago. I said about the Pack Odds that are gonna be in Fifa 19 and he said that its one of the measures EA took. It was not voluntairily done.

He Said btw that if Belgium wins it has affect on everybody in Europe so UK. Spain. France. Portugal etc.

I just heard from someone that you cant buy NFL points in Holland and Belgium to open packs on Madden 19. That doesnt sound promissing tbh.

Is this true? That would be a big deal in both countries!

Someone said it was on Reddit 2 weeks ago in a topic about lootbox bans. I cant find it. Maybe you do

Hopefully this leads to them retooling UT mode. EA’s fetish with lootboxes became ridiculous recently after the extent they expanded them into Battlefront II and Need For Speed.

Thing is. You can still buy point at the biggest online store in Holland. Madden points are also available on the xbox store on console and website. Fifa 19 points are for pre order as well

Probably just a rogue operator and the regulator sends them a cease and desist once it’s reported.

Glad the EU is finally standing up and taking action against EA’s predatory business model.

Just called EA again and i spoke to a very nice guy. He said that there will be Fifa points and transfermarket available in Ffia 19 ongoing next week. He had an internal training about the game and he had no info that it was not gonna happen that there are no fifa points.

Full disclosure i used to work in the industry... of sorts and am pro gambling if such a thing exsists but i've had a couple of interesting conversations about this inside the traditional gambling community.

There does seem to be a what about them ? attitude to this whole situation i don't think people actualy get why governments are cracking down, it's become much more of a mental health and welfare issue look at what the regulations and fine here actually was for.

    https://www.theguardian.com/society/2018/jun/20/online-casino-32red-fined-2m-for-failing-problem-gambler

The thoughts inside the industry are that mechanially it's the same and the same guidelines should be followed which would have interesting effect on the game as a whole.

Do you buy these game to check if you can buy and use points? Or do you really like all sports games? :)

Hopefully this gets bumped up to the European court. Hilarious how EA has no problem removing lootboxes from their other games but is digging in so hard on Ultimate Team aka the more that justified them ruining all their games with loot boxes.

    Finland's also investigating lootboxes now.

Last fiscal year 67% of EA's profits were from lootboxes btw. They're just trying to milk this cow barren while they can.

The key focus for the parties involved appears to be "tackling unlicensed third-party websites offering illegal gambling linked to popular video games". If you're wondering what this is, think back to skin betting site CS:GO Lounge, which allowed users to bet real money on a pot of their CS:GO items until Valve cracked down on the site in 2016. Many of these still exist, and regulators want both the video games industry and technology platforms "to play their part in helping crack down on these websites".

But the investigation won't stop there. The regulators stated games providers must "ensure that features within games, such as loot boxes, do not constitute gambling under national laws". This indicates more countries will now examine whether loot boxes can be classed as gambling.

Although I think it's great that gambling authorities are paying more attention to this, I'm curious how lootboxes are considered gambling but all these trading card games throughout the year (pokemon, yu-gi-oh etc.) were not. Did it also not revolve around gambling money on packs in the hopes of getting the best cards?

Those were physical collectible cards that also double as a card game, real world cards have actual real world value even after decades as someone can readily buy them.. Not really that different than me buying tons of packs of basketball cards back in the day and only getting 2 Michael Jordan's, but I still have Jordan cards to this day. FUT cards are basically worthless outside of the game's closed economy and you never really 'own' the cards you pack...you just use them to fuel your annual UT binge every year from scratch.

The biggest problem is that there's literally zero regulation on lootboxes due to legislators playing catch-up and EA are even bleeding stones dry till they do. But using an integrated currency (coins) IMO is legally OK. FIFA though is built on a dependency on a currency available only for real money (FIFA points) whose sole purpose is to be used in games of chances (packs) with dubiously dynamic, constantly adjusting odds so that EA can at all times control the market. All done following a pay-to-win mechanic which gradually escalates throughout the year (IF's, TOTY, TOTS, Futties, and whatever other rainbow cards are rolled out gradually) just to ensure that the addicted keep coming back for their next crack pack hit when they think they've finally assembled their "Ultimate Team".

FIFA and other sports games are definitely the most dangerous of the lot when compared to the purely cosmetic lootboxes in games like Overwatch etc. Sure you can earn packs in-game in FUT, but it's ridiculously slow and inefficient if you're not putting in stock market analysis levels of effort.

There definitely needs to be a throttling to packs though as the most common regret threads I see here are people thinking "maybe I will get that high rated card that justifies this $100 binge with my next 1k FP...or maybe now...or maybe now...OOH, this guy here packed CR7 ,maybe now's a good time to but 12k FP!!!!" I think forums and reddit also make this worse as it further fuels that OCD attitude when you see us here with our great pack posts.
