Not at all. Certainly not to extent he was criticised. He was made to be the scapegoat as always. His face was used on every German newspaper following their exit- basically used as the cover boy for their failure, which is horrible. He wasn't even the worst German player. In the game against Korea he was one of their better players, in fact.

To a lesser extent the same happens to Raheem Sterling. We're fortunate that we had a good world cup otherwise Sterling would've been destroyed by the media. People still criticised him even in games he played well. Makes me wonder if everyone's clueless when it comes to football or there's another agenda.

He posed for a picture with the (controversial) head of state of a NATO member. He didn’t ask anyone to vote for or against him.

To criticize Ozil for not snubbing Erdogan or leading opposition to him is unfair.

This isn't about "not snubbing him". He and Gundogan voluntarily met up with him and referred to him as "My president" despite being German born. He's supposed to be representing their national team and Erdogan has attacked Germany multiple times, people have a right to feel betrayed.

Erdogan used the pictures for political gain so it may as well be an endorsement.

Don’t really have a problem with the picture as you don’t know what it’s for, but I agree that saying “My President” isn’t okay (I didn’t know that was said till now). If you’re gonna represent Germany, your leader is the German Chancellor.

The mere fact that before the World Cup, the DFB talked with Ozil and publicly stated that "it is not a topic anymore" and then retracting that because Germany got knocked out is an absolute joke. The way the DFB handled this situation was absolute s*** imo

It was Gundogan who wrote "my president" on a shirt he gave to Erdogan. Ozil talked about the significance of respecting the position of the Turkish president because he has Turkish roots.

I’m very excited to see how you do this season, a fresh new coach along with some top signings in my eyes , i really think you’ll trouble the top 4 and might secure a spot yourself.

Attack is definently good enough, Leno could be surprising and Cech looks in much better shape.

We are lacking a strong CB still.. Hope we sign a good one.

    We don't sign many.

But.. we also never really signed a top striker in the past 10 years before last season and a top DM before this season..

Agreed. I was a little skeptical of Emery when he was unveiled, but the signings have been good and he should be able to challenge for a top 4 spot.

Think City and Liverpool have 1 and 2 locked (not necessarily in that order) and United, Chelsea, Spurs, and Arsenal will be battling for 3 and 4.

I wouldn't rule out Arsenal and Chelsea from the title before we know how they perform under their new managers. Chelsea could still sign a striker which would help their squad massively. Issue for us is that our defence is still shocking, so the title's very unlikely. Liverpool and City are definitely the favourites, I agree

I honestly have no idea how we'll line up for the new season tbh. One of Mkhi, Ozil or Laca could be left out, or we could play Torreira-Ramsey as a two, which would leave Torreira very isolated. Or we could play Xhaka-Torreira, but then we'd be leaving out one of our best players in Ramsey. Which one would you play out of these?

    Leno
    Bellerin-Chambers/new CB-Sokratis-Kolasinac
    Ramsey-Torreira-Xhaka
    Mkhi-Laca-Auba

    Leno
    Bellerin-Chambers/new CB-Sokratis-Kolasinac
    Ramsey-Torreira-Xhaka
    Ozil-Auba-Mkhi

    Leno
    Bellerin-Chambers/new CB-Sokratis-Kolasinac
    Ramsey-Torreira-Xhaka
    Ozil-Laca-Auba

    Leno
    Bellerin-Chambers/new CB-Sokratis-Kolasinac
    Ramsey-Torreira
    Mkhi-Ozil-Auba
    Laca

    Leno

Has to be this one. You don’t have the level of team where you can afford to leave the likes of Ramsey, Ozil, Mkhi, Auba, or Laca out.

It doesn't matter how you line up, you're still finishing outside the top 4.

Why do you think that? Because of last season when we had a different manager and worse players? Or because you're telling yourself anything to make you believe United will finish inside the top 4? United are in a group with us, Spurs and Chelsea. It's difficult to say which two make top four tbh.

My money would be on Spurs and Chelsea, if I'm honest.

Spurs are solid if not improving and Chelsea seem to get a new manager bounce every two years or so.

United are in the pre-detonation phase of Mourinho season 3 and Arsenal will, as an institution, have some growing pains in succeeding an omnipresent manager like Wenger.

Spurs aren't really doing anything to improve their squad, though. I feel like they've peaked and it's downhill from here, but I may be wrong. Chelsea's problem is their squad. Who do they replace Courtois with when he leaves? Who do they play striker? I'm not impressed by their defence either. All four teams have their frailties, which is why I think it's hard to predict

I agree with this , we aren’t a certainty to finish top 4 , Maureen will probably detonate mid season after we languish mid table from all the boring defensive football he’ll cook up while the other 5 teams go out and win games attacking teams and scoring goals.

Fancy Arsenal to beat Spurs to the top four tbh

I think Tottenham have been pushing their luck with that squad and this is the season they are exposed.
