This might/will sound pretty daft to some.

You know when you go on youtube and you can choose the quality of the video, Obviously 4k takes longer to load than 720p right?

So is this the same for gaming? (Pretty sure it isn't).

So basically, is there any difference in me physically playing a game in 4k than 720p on the constraints of my internet, like there is when i watch a video/stream?

The image is being generated by your machine so there shouldnt be. And your machine isnt uploading the 4k image to input into gameplay. All it is sending over the internet is your commands right?

(Not savvy in terms of 4k, thats just what makes sense to me)

The 4K output will come from the machine not the internet

Not necessarily bothered about 4k boss.

Even simply 1080p compared to 720p.

Your point makes perfect sense though.

4k won't effect your internet if it is local, if you were to want to stream a 4k game via some service it would be a big constraint on it over 720p

For reference 4k is 4x the pixels that is in 1080p

Any idea why i get a lot of lag playing in 1080p but pretty much zero in 720p?

So his video was basically saying he gets more lag in 1080 than 720?

    Interesting.....

He went into other things too I think in it. Was around the time he said everyone was playing on American servers if you want to try to find it.

no its not, it's simply what im experiencing.

Every game i play on seasons in 1080 lags.....not delay, just lag.

The second i switch to 720 it goes.

Now i'm not saying it's down to the switch from 1080 to 720. It may be because my hdmi cable is faulty, it may be because my tv prefers the 720p output to the 1080p output.

I just know it is happening.

This. I've swapped to 720 after seeing that video and there's was zero difference in game play. just a grainier picture.

he was saying reducing to 720 is a method to try to reduce input delay, never mentioned "lag" iirc.

the output that your console broadcasts to your TV isn't going to cause gameplay to lag...

it just might be something unfortunate with your console, or your TV, or something.

You can google your question and there's a ton of threads about "reducing my consoles output to 720 to reduce lag" and you're find a ton of threads from various sites questioning whether it reduces lag and/or input delay and if you read them there's a lot of detailed answers provided as to how it doesn't have an effect on them. Most of the issues point back to the TV, but I'm not sure in your case because you're describing lag and not input delay.

1080p shouldn't cause an increase in "lag"

yeah, I'm not stating that using 1080p instead of 720p causes lag....i'm just stating that i have more lag in 1080p than 720p.

i play in 720p. The game is definatly slower in 1080p, i reckon it causes more input lag
