Went to switch a socket off, but it's locked in place and won't let me? so permanently on. It sparked a little, but no smell.

Is this safe? I'll likely get it replaced in a few days, but didn't particularly want to burn my flat block down in the mean time.

    yeah sounds like its the socket thats seized up. the spark will be the connection being made and then not with it being half switched on.

    Change the socket and let me know how it goes mate

    @Th3 UK Smurf

    Is it safe for the mean time though?

    And it's a double socket, would the other socket (which is unaffected) be okay to use?

    Agree on the spark. Definitely only change the socket yourself if you know what you're doing. Mains electricity can mess up your whole day.

    Yes taking a socket off, and putting one on. For the call out and that no more than £30. I would only charge 20 if it was me.

    Yeah just kill the breaker, and recommend measuring all with a multimeter to be sure its dead. It's not /that/ hard, just that the risk of you mess up is high.

    I actually hate working on amps more, since those caps mean they still bite even when unplugged. And if you wire something wrong you can potentially wind up with mains power on your strings.

    Im not even joking.

    1st time was from a capacitor in a disposable camera, I was taking it to pieces for a GCSE product design class.

    2nd time was from a desk lamp that was plugged into the mains, I had it half taken to pieces/reassembled and touched something I shouldnt. This time for an A level product design class.

    3rd time I touched an electric wire while working on a chicken farm :joy:
