We understand the Black Cats will pay Manchester United £5m for McNair, with add-ons potentially making the deal worth £7m, while the fee for Love will be just under £1m."

Love is okay I suppose, but we should have gotten more for McNair. They just signed Djilobodji off Chelsea for 8m

Woodward may have improved somewhat at incomings, but he has work to do on outgoings. Liverpool are far better at this than us. They get more money and then also put in buyback clauses just in case.

How are Liverpool much better? Sure they just lost one of their highest rated academy players in years for 250k compensation.

You can't really complain about that deal, we've flogged them an average Premier League defender (at best) and a terribad one for potentially £8m.

No we shouldn't. He's terrible and we've already been given far more than he's worth.

If you don't think Rossiter was rated highly by the club then you clearly know nothing about your youth.

We've never sold a youth player worth buying back.

Have you read BBC Sport in the last week?

Edit: If you get into "sold" vs "letting go," I am out.

I'm worried about you, @murphy. Your interest in youth doesn't show you in a very good light.

What would have been a fair price for him? He wasn't particularly good and he ended up going to a not-particularly-good team. Most of our academy products have been atrocious in recent years, so being in the top 10 in the past decade is not really an accomplishment.

We didn't sell or let him go. He left on a free after declining a contract offer.

A couple of million maybe. I never said he was good enough to ever make Liverpool but he was highly rated by the club and you wanted to keep him so he was still rated high enough. Sure the whole discussion is about selling youth players so of course they are going to be ones who aren't good enough.

The whole point though is that Liverpool aren't far better than us at selling youth players for high fees which Ahmer is bitching about. You sold Smith for 6m, we sold McNair for potentially 7m. Ibe for 15m and reports are Sunderland have also bid 15m for Adnan. So in no way are we horrible at selling youth players for good fees and Liverpool amazing at it.
