Anybody else feel like they are not playing the game as much as they have in previous years?

I have been playing FUT every year for the past 5 or 6 years. I don't play in the WL (other than for a few weeks a couple of years ago). I used to really love playing rivals, even though i have always been distinctly average (Div 3-4 in previous fifas). This year since there is no relegation i ended up finding myself climbing and climbing the divisions way to fast, even with the fact i would go on long losing streaks but eventually wold win enough games in a row to find myself reaching the elite division just 2 seasons ago.
Suffice to say, i didn't enjoy there, thankfully, it was at the end of that season so i was back down into div 2 last season.

During last season i only ended up playing just over 20 games and was just not enjoying it whatsoever and instead found myself just playing in all the friendly objectives games and oddly enjoying this way more!

I am now in div4 in rivals and yet to even play 1 game in it so far and doubt i will play it at all again unless i have to complete an objective in it.

The game just seems to have turned into a card collecting game for me now as i don't really get to use all the new objective players i have collected other than in other objective based friendlies.

I am just not enjoying the "must win at all cost" aspect that the WL and rivals has compared to the friendlies/objective modes where, although you have a time limit to complete objectives, you can win/lose as many games as it takes until you complete what you need to get the final reward but in WL and rivals you have to win as many games as you can in a certain amount of games/time to reach a level/reward you feel you want and then you will usually end up getting some poor rewards for all your hard work.

It just doesn't seem worth the hassle anymore.

I play friendlies way less this year. Gg has pretty much ruined the mode. You collect all the off meta cards and you can’t ever use them because everyone quits.

I had almost every silver last year but then nobody wants to play or just gg so I wasted all that time.

Gg mentality has taken over every mode it seems as people just quit rather than try to win.

They killed the game by removing friend’s rank in WL.We ,men, like to compete and see how our friends are doing. Now you just play for yourself. They make the WL the casual well prized mode.I played every WL since 3 years, now i barely touch it.

Objectives and friendlies much less for me this year

Last year I did almost every card, even if it was fodder or pack friendly modes, this year, I barely touch it, even icon swaps round 2, i haven't bothered at all

I just don't see the point in grinding for a dead fodder card or an 83 Gosens in a 100k pack anymore

Don’t bother with Friendlies anymore thanks to golden goal, not much incentive to play DR once I hit the win threshold, and I was shut out of WL for half the year, so my playing time’s probably been cut in half.

I play the 8 wins in rivals, WL qualifying is done in an hour, WL done in 3-4. I haven't bothered with the last few objective cards either and the only time I go deep in terms of number of matches is when icon swaps drops.

Basically, I play a lot less than before. As for the reason why, I find dipping in and out the way to basically be able to continue enjoying the game. If I played the same volume of games as in previous years, I'd have already uninstalled.

It's also true I'm happy playing Apex Legends and dabbled with other games like Forza Horizon 5. In previous years, I was focused on FIFA (this changed last year with a switch to Warzone for a bit).
  • You should give a shot to Champs. I hated it last year but this year is my fav mode. I have been getting 11+ W every week and the rewards arey favorite of any mode. You are missing out. I am in Elite and only play till i reach my 8 W.

All the quitting at 0-0, or quitting as soon as You go up, is sucking the life out the game. There are some other great games to play atm too.

I’ve played a lot this year, because the game is much better than last year.
But now I only play WL and silver stars.

Weird really as yes seems like I play a lot less but actually get a lot more, I mean I never got elite in previous wl yet can get 9 wins and get say the TOTW pack and sometimes 11 for 3 player picks yet never had that in previous fifas. A lot of these include quits/gifts aswell so I cant really argue against it. Ok fair to say play more rivals than before but that's more of the case of well at least its something to do mon-thurs unlike last year but then this all but cancels out with sb as yes I rarely play that unless objective ie silver beasts/icon swaps.

Also with the big milestones all done for me aswell its just getting more stale more quickly I think is the main issue as yes all a lot quicker so want more and more but yes still half the game left which is scary!

Im down to maybe 10 squad battle games a week for the season xp, lack of objective cards from rivals means I can't be bothered, can't be bothered with friendlies as objective cards are only reward.

Getting burnt out chasing shiny carrots too, can't be bothered anymore.

At the start I was playing loads but over past couple of months I hardly play. 4-8 rivals wins, 5 wins in WL and that’s really it.

Where as I used to try get a few cheeky games in every time I could I literally only play twice a week now.

played a lot of WL the last years because of FOMO when it comes to reds
now i can see the TOTW before i qualify what makes me skip 90% of them

also with trading being as easy as ever, i'm not reliant on Rivals/Champs rewards

I actually like the fact you have to play less to compete. Working in a bar meant that last year it was very rare I could play WL. The fact that qualifying is mid week and only 20 games at the weekend means I’ve only missed a few this year. Also if I’m too busy to play the lot, I can blast out 5 wins in an hour-ish and still get decent rewards.

Only needing 8wins in rivals is a blessing too as it doesn’t consume your free time as much as it used to.

playing way less than I used to. Skipped 21 alltogether, and now just play sporadically this year. Probably on average 3-4 games a week.

I like the fact I don't play as much as I used to back in the day, just load up a game every now and then and just play. Still do SBCs though, so I suppose I still engage with the game daily, just don't physically play it anywhere near as much as others.

This is the longest I've played a fifa for since I last made it to TOTS on fifa 18.

Friendlies should be renamed, nothing “friendly” about the large number of cretins residing there for the most part. And no, I don’t want to quit out and play GG. Thanks for pausing for me though, I’ll go grab another drink.

I play the menus a lot more. Only just paying off. League SBC grind has not been friendly to me this year but recently had some big pulls from the packs. Thought I’d try DR with the new team using the cards I had and everyone plays GG there too… it would seem no one actually wants to play…

Yep. I play way less than previous years. And it's a lot better like this. Only smash some Rivals and Champs. Haven't touched friendlies, and only did some Squad Battles on Swaps 1. Setting limits is good.

”Friendlies” also implies there’s nothing at stake, which is clearly not the case as there are objectives involved.

It’s like these developers know next to nothing about the sport.

  • I am playing a lot just different modes. Used to at a lot of div rivals but now i only play that to 8 W after i reach the elite Div. I am playing mostly Champs and Friendlies . I enjoy those competitive friendlies that win packs. Great addition to the game

Complete and utter time drain of a game. Haven’t played a single game of FUT this year and it’s been a great choice.

I didn’t know that. With them removing that and hiding your win loss record, it’s clear they’re trying to make the people who aren’t good not have a reminder of how bad they are.

Hard to tell. Barely anyone plays a full 90 mins anymore so the quantity of games goes up by default, which is probably all EA care about as they can dress this mess up as a rise in engagement, which aside from FP sales, seems to be their only other concern this year.

I dont even check 6pm content anymore because everything gets leaked in advance everywhere you look. EA needs to get this under control for FUT 23.

I didn't play for a couple of editions before last year but before that was playing a lot, and even last year I kept saying I'd stop but kept logging back in. This year though I've found it very easy to take breaks of up to several weeks from playing - gameplay particularly awful, too many people not interested in playing, just wanting to sit with 8 men in their box and spam long through balls to some pace merchant, obj rewards seem a bit dead.

Even little things like the menus being laggy or having to watch pack animations of a new badge you unlocked add to the annoying experience. I don't really open packs outside of earning them through SBCs/rewards but even still feel my pack luck is quite low so takes a while to get a cool player to use or build up a decent bank of fodder for an SBC.

Just too easy to ignore and play a different game/do something else entirely.
