not sure why people are being so snarky about the possible (but unlikely) removal of red picks. They set the weekend league apart from rivals and do give added incentive. Great too for SBC fodder, especially in the later stages of the game when they are guaranteed TOTS cards.

I only play weekend league for red picks. They’re the only unique thing that I can get from it. I could make more coins by trading for significantly less time over the weekend to get anything else weekend league rewards offer.
