The season has already been under way for the past couple of months, so I will be creating a summary of the season so far.

I will attempt to put all the goings on at the club, mainly the results and then anything else that occurs. I know this won't be a particularly popular thread, maybe just me, but I hope to keep you updated on all things Cobresal!

First up this season was the Copa Chile group stages. There were high expectations going into the tournament, after the previous seasons success, those they were eventually short lived.

A promising start, eventually led to failure after being eliminated at the first stage.

The Apertura got under way earlier this month. And it got of to a good start for Cobresal, claiming a 2-1 victory away at San Marcos.

Though 2 consecutive defeats to Colo Colo and Palestino left them sitting 12th in the table after 3 games.

Another disappointing result for Cobresal today, losing 3-1 away to U.Concepcion.

Ever Cantero scored the opening goal, that meant that Cobresal took a 1-0 lead at the half way point. But goals from Vargas, Churin and Troncoso ensured that the home team left with all three points.

Chilean teams are fantastic for overs betting, going to have to keep an eye out for Cobresal from now on.

They usually finish mid table, so last seasons success was a bit of a one off. I imagine this season will be back to the usual with the manager leaving, and second top goal scorer following him to the UAE. Though they have bought in a lot of new players.

Lets say I wouldn't be backing them just yet

Cobresal returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over San Luis.

An entertaining first half in which Cobresal created the majority of the chances, with Cantero and Fuentes both going close for the hosts.
The best chance of the half came for San Luis, when Meneses was one on one with Lobos in the Cobresal goal. But he could only shoot straight at the 'keeper.

    HT Cobresal 0-0 San Luis

Jonathon Benitez got the first goal of the game, after his shot from just inside the box was heavily deflected and looped over Reyes into the back of the net. Cobresal 1-0 San Luis (56')
The reply followed quickly after. Lobos, parried a cross into the path of former Cobresal player Escobar ,who duly finished to make the game level. Cobresal 1-1 San Luis (59')
The winning goal again came from Benitez. A Cobresal free-kick was not successfully defended, and the ball fell to Benitez 12 yards from goal who slotted it past Reyes to secure all three points for Cobresal's second win in the league. Cobresal 2-1 San Luis (68')

Another disappointing result yesterday for Cobresal, after they suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Deportes Iquique.

Cobresal took the lead after 33 minutes through López, but a goal from Villalobos on the stroke of half time ensured that the game was level at half time. Pinares then scored 10 minutes after the restart for Deportes Iquique. This turned out to be the winning goal as they picked up their second win of the season. Both teams are now on 6 points after 6 games.

The disapointing start to the season continued last night as Cobresal lost 2-1 away to Universidad de Chile.

The home team took the lead three minutes after half time, with the goal scored by Canales. Salazar then got sent off for Cobresal after receiving his second booking of the game in the 86th minute. Cristian Suarez soon made it 2-0 for the hosts, two minutes into added on time. Patricio Jerez scored a late consolation in the 95th minute, which resulted in a 2-1 victory for Universidad de Chile.

That meant that Universidad de Chile move onto 12 points after their 7 games, whilst Cobresal continue to struggle thus far this season with 6 points off 7 games.

Perhaps not too surprising, considering the manager left, and a few key players leaving during the off season, but dissapointing after last seasons' success.

Earlier this week, Cobresal parted company with manager Arturo Norambuena. The technical director of the youth team at Cobresal, Ruben Vallejos Gajard, has taken over on an interim basis currently. This was on the back of a disappointing start to the season.

Cobresal host Santiago Wanderers on Sunday. The Copa Libertadores also starts soon, which Cobresal qualified for after winning the league last season.

Cobresal took the lead from a 25 yard strike from Johan Fuentes. A corner was cleared only as far as Fuentes, who looked to get the ball back in the box, but shot instead. The ball bounced just in front of the goalkeeper, and went in off the post.
10 minutes before half time, Santiago Wanderers had a couple of good chances to get back into the game. A good crosses found its way to Muñoz, which found Lobos from 6 yards out, and he produced a good save with his feet. Next came a ball across the box from 10 yards out, but it was to powerful for Muñoz, who couldn't control it, and it went out of play.
    HT Cobresal 1-0 Santiago Wanderers

Cobresal doubled their lead in the 66th minute. Pablo Gonzalez crossed the ball in towards Ever Cantero, who chested it down towards Benitez who drilled in a shot from just inside the box.
Santiago had a good chance to reduce the deficit, when Gonzalez was through on goal, but could only hit it over the bar from 12 yards out.

And that was how the game ended. A good performance after the departure of Norambuena earlier this week, and their third win of the season after two successive defeats.

    FT Cobresal 2-0 Santiago Wanderers

Valiant effort. I'm a follower of the Chilean league, and Cobresal. Ever Cantero was incredible last season, as was Matias Donoso whilst Cantero was injured, a shame he left.

Stream every game and love it.

A poor start for Cobresal after a good goal from Diego Valdes, who scored directly free kick after 3 minutes. Cobresal had a couple of chances to equalise, with Fuentes firing over within the box, and Villagra firing wide after good work from Fuentes.
Audax Italiano extended their lead just before half time, when a deep cross was headed home by Sergio Santos headed home.
    HT Cobresal 0-2 Audax Italiano

Despite seeing much of the possesion in the second half, Cobresal struggled to create any clear cut shots, and were often hit on the counter. A fine interception from Salazar prevent Audax Italiano extending their lead further.
Another chance fell to Santos, who was through on goal, but he wasted his chance after hitting the post, of what seemed a certain goal.
Cobresal pulled a goal back through Ever Cantero, who finished well into the bottom left corner, following a deflected pass across goal from Villagra.

    Apologies for the late post.

Cobresal visited Union La Calera on Saturday evening. And they started brightly, with Cantero just failing to hit the target with a shot across the face of goal.
Cobresal got the first goal of the game 10 minutes before half time through Alejandro Lopez. Benitez made good progress down the right flank, and drilled it across the 6 yard box. Cantero failed to make any decent contact, but it fell to Lopez who followed up behind Cantero to slam it home.
A La Calera corner was cleared by Cobresal, and fell to Cantero who put Pobelete through from the half way line. Good pressure from Lucas Giovini in the La Calera goal forced Poblete wide, and Giovini saved well.
HT Union La Calera 0-1 Cobresal

Cobresal started the second half well. A Cantero knock on put Fuentes through on goal. His shot from the edge of the shot could only be parried by Giovini back into the path of Fuentes, who headed home to double the lead for Cobresal.
A second booking for Agustin Gonzalez after a strong challenge on Cantero 10 minutes before the end for Union La Calera condemned them to their 7th loss of the season and leaving them second bottom on 7 points.
This was Cobresal's 4th win of the season, leaving them on 12 points in 11th after 10 games.
FT Union La Claera 0-2 Cobresal

Cobresal today welcomed the visit of Universidad Catolica, who were sitting second in the table.

The first clear chance of the chance fell to Johan Fuentes, who from 20 yards out could only find a diving Toselli in the Catolica goal. Moments later, Jonathan Benitez fired wide after good movement to beat two Catolica defenders.
Universidad Catolica were awarded a penalty after a dubious handball decision against Salazar. Roberto Gutiérrez scored from the spot with a powerful strike, sending Lobos the wrong way.
The response from Cobresal was quick. They won a free kick almost straight off of kick off, 30 yards from goal. Alejandro Lopez scored with a sublime strike, curling it around the wall into the corner of the net.
Catolica almost made it two, when a Gutiérrez shot couldn't be met by a team mate, and was subsequently cleared.
They did make it two soon after. A free kick was curled in from the corner of the box, and Gutiérrez headed the ball over a stranded Lobos into the bottom corner of the net. Replays showed that Gutiérrez was in an offside position when the free kick was taken.
Jeisson Vargas almost made it three for Catolica, when a deflected shot looped onto the top of the crossbar.
On the stroke of half time, Universidad Catolica did make it 3-1 when a cross from Bravo was headed home by Cesar Fuentes.
HT CD Cobresal 1-3 Universidad Catolica

Cobresal made a change at half time, replacing Jonathan Benitez with Carlos Oyaneder. And that proved a good move from the manager. Oyaneder drew a foul from Magnasco inside the penalty area, and the referee duly pointed to the spot. Ever Cantero successfully converted the penalty, halving the deficit to make it 2-3.
The task was made harder for Cobresal, after Salazar picked up his second booking of the match, for apparently obstructing Jeisson Vargas.
4 minutes later, Catolica extended their lead back to two goals with a second goal for Cesar Fuentes with a strike from the edge of the box, which rolled under Lobos in the Cobresal goal.
Roberto Gutiérrez then scored his third goal of the game with a strike from the centre of a box from a corner, which Cobresal failed to clear.
Johan Fuentes almost got a late consolation, when his fine strike from outside the box hit the outside of the post.

A very entertaining game, though Cobresal will feel aggrieved about Catolica's opening two goals, and Salazar's two bookings. There are only four games of the Apertura remaining.

On Saturday, Cobresal visited Huachipato, hoping to get back to winning ways after last weeks loss to Universidad Catolica.

Huachipato almost got off to a great start. Arrue met a cross, and headed it backwards to Ignacio Duma, who headed straight at Lobos, though it was a good save by the goalkeeper who was hoping to impress after last weeks poor performance.
They soon did get the lead. A deep cross from Leonardo Povea wasn't met by anyone in the box, and rolled out to Sagal. With a first time pass, it found Ignacio Duma, who chipped it up, and brilliantly vollyed home over his shoulder.

    Huachipato 1-0 CD Cobresal

Romelu Otero almost doubled the lead on the hour mark, but he failed to hit the target when put through on goal.
Cobresal had a shout for a penalty, when Luis Valenzuela chipped it against the arm of Claudio Munoz, but on replay's, it showed that it would have been harsh on the Huachipato captain.
Huachipato made it two just before the end of the match. Escolona lost the ball 5 yards outside of the area to Angelo Sagal, who finished it off slotting the ball past Lobos.

    Huachipato 2-0 CD Cobresal.

Today Cobresal welcomed bottom of the table Antofagasta, with the hosts without leading scorer Cantero. Lino Maldonado replaced him in the starting line-up.

The game was delayed for 5 minutes whilst the Antofagasta 'keeper changed his socks from white to black.

The first clear chance of the game fell to Antofagasta, when Martin Gomez found himself in plenty of space on the edge of the box. He fired a shot at goal, which was well stopped by Lobos.
Antofagasta has the ball in the net soon later, as a cross fell to Ivanobski after missing everyone in the box, but Gomez was adjudged offside by the linesman in the build up.
Both teams had chances to take the lead, with Martinez the closest for Antofagasta, shooting just wide when put through on goal. Cobresal''s best chances came from distance, with Fuentes and Cabion having multiple attempts without hitting the target.
Antofagasta almost took the lead before half time. Gomez had an audacious shot from 40 yards, and it clipped the top of the crossbar and went out for a goal kick.
The first goal of the game was scored in the 45th minute. Pablo Gonzalez held the ball up well, and laid it off to Lopez, who drilled it across goal. Lino Maldonado was there to tap it in to give Cobresal the lead.
Maldonado almost doubled the lead moments later, but he failed to get his shot past Hurtado in the visitors goal.

HT CD Cobresal 1-0 CD Antofagasta

Cobresal doubled their lead 8 minutes into the second half. Johan Fuentes with a deflected shot wrong footed Hurtado, who couldn't quite reach as it rolled past him into the bottom corner.
Antofagasta had two good chances to pull a goal back. First, it was Ivanobski who powerfully struck the ball against the near post from the edge of the box. Soon later it was Martinez from a corner. Lobos made a great save from close range to preserve Cobresal's two goal lead.
Cobresal added a third with 20 minutes to go. Gonzalez robbed Ivanobski of the ball on the half way line following an Antofagasta corner. He managed to keep ahead of Ivanobski up to the bar line, where he pulled it back to Johan Fuentes who fired home into an empty net.
Antofagasta pulled a goal back 5 minutes from time, with Marcos Aguirre culring a free kick into the far corner from just outside the box.

In the penultimate game of the Apertura, Cobresal travelled to O'Higgins looking to end the season strongly after last weeks victory.

O'Higgins created the first goal scoring oppertunity of the match, when a short corner was crossed to the far post, where Pablo Calandria headed against the post from close distance.
The opening goal of the game fell to O'Higgins. Gaston Lezcano was given too much time to run at the Cobresal players, and managed to find Calandria unmarked on the edge of the box. Calandria calmly chipped it over Lobos, who wasn't given any help from his defenders.
    HT O'Higgins 1-0 CD Cobresal

10 minutes into the second half, O'Higgins doubled their lead, with Calandria scoring his second of the game. A deep free kick was crossed into the box, and Calandria managed to escape his marker to head it past .
They almost managed a third. Lobos managed to beat Lezcano to the ball, but failed to get any distance onto it, which left him with only a defender on the line to get it past. But Lezcano rushed it, shooting on the turn, and ended up missing the target.

Going into the final round of the Apertura, Cobresal sit 11th on 15 points. They face Union Espanola who are 5th. The race to finish 1st is very close. Colo Colo currently occupy the top spot, but are only one point ahead of Universidad Catolica in second. 3rd to 7th are only seperated by two points, with only a win seperating 10th to 15th. Antoagasta prop up the table on 8 points, 5 behind San Luis in 15th.

On the final game week of the Apertura, Cobresal welcomed the visit of Union Espanola.

The first action came after 10 minutes. After Lobos made a comfortable save from Galdames, his kick found it's way through the Espanola defence to Carlos Oyaneder. He was fouled by Jorge Ampuero when through on goal, though the Espanola defender was only booked. Alejandro Lopez duly dispatched the spot kick to give Cobresal an early lead.
The lead didn't last for long. Union Espanola won a corner soon later, after Diego Silva made the clearance. Sergio Lopez's cross was met at the front post by Nicolas Mancilla, who headed it into the far corner to equalise for the away team.
Cobresal continued to apply the pressure, and almost regained the lead. A good stop by Diego Sanchez, found it's way to Jonathan Benitez who hit the crossbar with an effort from the edge of the area.
Diego Sanchez was in action again. Jonathan Benitez with a good strike forced Sanchez into a great save to tip it around the post for a corner.
HT CD Cobresal 1-1 Union Espanola

Neither team managed to have any clear chances for the majority of the second half.
Johan Fuentes lost possession on the edge of the box, with the ball being cleared to Benitez on the right hand side of the penalty area. He then brilliantly shot with the outside of his foot into the top left hand corner, leaving Sanchez stranded, and giving Cobresal the lead.
Alejandro Lopez bought the best out of Diego Sanchez once again, with a curling free kick that was heading for the top corner.
Cobresal managed to increase their lead two minutes from team. Fuentes chipped the ball over an Espanola defender, into the path of Luis Valenzuela who volleyed it over the on rushing Sanchez to ensure that Cobresal ended the game with three points.
FT CD Cobresal 3-1 Union Espanola
