To carry on from @RollsReus great work the previous years.. For the 11th year running, the Star Head Thread returns for this years edition of FIFA 23. This thread is consistently the biggest and most popular thread on this entire official Fifa forum, having attained more than 1.8Million views for the FIFA 19 thread. This, combined with an ever increasing hunger from fans around this world, shows how highly fans of FIFA value the topic of player faces within the game.
Since 2011, the Star Heads Thread has been the mecca for news on player faces and a place for aesthetic fans to come and discuss all things face-like. Throughout the years, we have had a community of passionate fans. Some who have been members for years and others who are new to the thread. We are some of the most committed fans who play the game, but don't mistake our tenacity, it's purely a mutual love of the game and a desire for our voices to be heard. Our members are constantly looking for squeaks and leaks for any potential news from official teams and players, via their social media channels.
Naturally we will have new users coming into this thread for the first time, who are very welcome to become part of the discussion. To you, we say that we are well aware that there's on-going problems with FIFA, including bugs etc, and that graphics can't be the main focus on the development team, but there is enough threads for these situations and we ask you to please make separate threads for your non-face related issues. This thread is committed to just one side of the title, something that EA has their own team for, so we ask that you respect our place and don't post for arguments sake. We respect your opinion but this isn't the place for it.

* We understand graphics aren't everyone's cup of tea. Please be aware that we also want gameplay updates and fixes but this thread is solely just for Star Heads. EA have numerous departments working on different aspects of the game. There are gameplay-specific threads for you to air your thoughts.
* Please do not quote posts that include numerous pictures etc, nor create quote chains. Please use the Spoiler link when posting posts that contain 2+ items.

There are 3 different types of faces in FIFA. They are the following:
Star Head
When a player receives the scanned treatment mentioned above:
Custom
When the player in-game is designed by the graphics team without the aide of a photoshoot:
Generic
When a player has a in-game face that is modelled on them without going into great detail:
A resident of this thread, @VapexKarma, has a popular YouTube channel that he constantly posts top quality videos on. These videos showcase many different visuals that are present in FIFA, such as player faces and face comparisons from PES, as well as players who are in need of an updated face on FIFA. His channel has only continued to increase over the past year as he fights the good fight for our struggles! You can find his channel here
EA, can you please add all the missing scans into the game! There have been numerous videos showing players that you have scanned / re-scanned (Defoe etc) that you still haven't added to the game!? Please add them!

Can i also please make a special mention to the Devs, that it's absolutely imperative that you find a way for new Star Heads that are added via a Title Update (followed by a further Squad Update) to work in existing Career Mode saves! As it is very frustrating having to start a new Career Mode every time you release a new Title / Squad Update!

Also, on 23.4.2019, we received new updated Bayern Munich scans in FIFA 19 and the vast difference from their old scan to their new one is quite evident, especially due to the improvement in graphics on new consoles, and why it is imperative you update the afore mentioned players who are in dire need of new / updated scans! We also need a lot more realistic hairstyles / beards adding to Create / Edit Real Player mode, including applying the new hair technology to all generic hairstyles!
P.S. Can you please add all the hairstyles, beards, tattoos etc from The Journey & VOLTA in to Create / Edit Real Player!!
Edit: Can i please also bring to your attention the great work @aliheidari2520 does on creating player likenesses from the in-game tools you provide in Fifa. He shouldn't need to create Icons as they are already in Ultimate Team and there should be an option to use them in Career Mode! But he could maybe assist you in creating better player likenesses for players who have generic faces that you can't scan or give custom faces too? Find his work here

Yeah i just think alot of scans this year will come post-launch. But those players EA can't get round to scanning NEED custom faces!! And alot of players still need hairstyle / beard updates even if they can't be scanned.. Leaving them generic / outdated is totally unacceptable!!
First "proper" full game on Next-Gen too. So big expectations!! Time to get rid of all the PS2/PS3 assets and bring Fifa to the year 2021!!
Does anyone know how many faces were added at launch and post launch in Fifa 20 and Fifa 21 seems to be way more in Fifa 20
I wrote the below in January on the 21 thread - looking at number of faces added/removed (obviously the ones for this year won't be quite up to date anymore - Tigres etc). Also, I don't think the below accounted for updated faces:
Fifa 15: Added 337, Removed 03, Difference: +334
Fifa 16: Added 276, Removed 00, Difference: +276
Fifa 17: Added 189, Removed 00, Difference: +189
Fifa 18: Added 318, Removed 00, Difference: +318
Fifa 19: Added 474, Removed 25, Difference: +449
Fifa 20: Added 734, Removed 30, Difference: +704
Fifa 21: Added 390, Removed 86, Difference: +304
Average: Added 388, Removed 21, Difference: +368
My counts for at/post launch (including updated players) are as follows:

I think these are fairly accurate - I think the reason the numbers don't add up compared to my original list is because the second list includes updated players, and the first only accounted for brand new (previously generic) ones.
Once things go back to normal, with EA acquiring more scanning rigs, hopefully we surpass the 734 number from Fifa 20. We might get 1000+ each year! But they NEED to bring back all the removed faces AND all the missing scans too!! This year was the perfect chance to do this, with only getting 390 new scans 🤦🏻♂️

If it takes 3 years to get faces into a game, players will be retired by the time they figure out how to get full bodies into it
Napoli won’t be getting scanned anytime soon anyway
