Lack of cards

After spending an eternity trying to set FIFA 21 up in a way which in some way was enjoyable (bit of a stretch) but I have just completed my first season, I played as Chelsea and finished 4th but that is by the by.
The amount of bugs at the start with the bizarre antics of players after a penalty was awarded to twin baldies in negotiations and the manager wearing a football kit during matches.

The first two seem to be fixed but I am still getting the manager wearing a kit during a game. I'm on the PC btw. But that isn't the biggest thing that imo has let the game down. I had some enjoyable games and in some aspects the game was nearly realistic. I say nearly but really it is way off.

The way handball is implemented is somewhat realistic but I think it is an accident rather than design. In real football handballs are given so lamely it isn't funny and this is shown in the game, a player could have the ball blasted at him from a few feet and if it hits his arm the handball offence is given. I think this needs to be addressed in real football as does VAR but that is another debate.

I'm talking yellow and red cards. In my game they are so rare, even the strictest Refs are not showing them. In all the season I saw about 4 yellows and not one Red. This certainly does not reflect real football and is a joke.

Yellow and Red cards are a big part of football, every fan knows that but it seems EA are not really fans of football, perhaps all they care about is gambling? In my season some of the fouls against me and ones I committed would have got me sent off but the game doesn't even show a yellow.

I had a player who was through on goal and hacked down but the Ref just gave him a talking to, I'm sure that is a straight red offence no? Then I went to do a through ball and the AI handballed it, he stuck his arms in the air to stop it. Again the player would have been through on goal but all I got was a free kick.

I have done some dodgy tackles which should be punished but let off. How is this game supposed to be a sim as quoted by EA themselves. I can appreciate it must be difficult in trying trying to balance a game but is this honestly the best EA can manage? IMO the game was well overpriced (I got it cheaper).

If EA could concentrate on the game itself rather than implementing stuff no-one wants then maybe we fans can get a football game we deserve no?

Yup. Saw 3-5 cards (all yellow) my first season. League plus 3 cup competitions plus friendlies.

Also: it is not just a matter of the player’s team getting cards. AI must also result in cards. This should also guarantee enough cards in Player Career (all but one player AI-controlled). And for those who lock the controller on one player.

So yeah, we want to see some reds, too. And having to rotate because of the accumulation of yellows over the season. Etc.
  • To get a card you would need to commit about 20 offences in a match otherwise nearly impossible to get a card. It really winds me up that I don't play it as much now.

It's very strange. It seems their solution to constant cards was to take cards nearly out of the game altogether with the recent patch.

Are you really serious?!? The only good thing EA did was to slow down on showing yellow cards from minute one and you complain about it? This is why this game is as it is.

I barely get any fouls called against me anyway. And yeah, the cards seem to be pretty much out of the game. Guess the UT players moaned about not being able to abuse the tackle button every 2 seconds.

Slow down on the yellow cards? You mean remove them yeah? I would like a realistic career mode that reflects a little with reality. It is normal to see at least a yellow being shown in games more often more than that. Reds are certainly not rare in the real game either, when they were common in the game they were given for silly things.

What EA could do is re-introduce cards that fit the crime. I have been through on goal with just the GK to beat where I get my players legs mowed down from behind. In the real world this is a straight Red but in EA's world I am lucky to get a free kick let alone a card for the opposition. The whole point of the career mode is to show some affinity with managing a real team in the real world but it isn't even showing the basics.

No realism at all. Bad game the last couple of years.

The problem isnt so much the lack of cards, its the lack of fouls. Some games, length dependent, you may only get a couple of fouls.

    I’d say both

I play 10 minute halves and only get fouls once or twice a game- max. Yet to see an AI player get a card. My game is suited to being fouled too, I dribble around players, use skills to beat them and shield the ball.

The game isn’t coded very well. Lack of fouls has been an issue for years.
  • Have stopped playing fifa now due to the lack of fouls and cards it just winds me up. I have bought pes for the very first time after buying fifa every year since 1998. The fouls etc are more realistic, game play at least 50% better than fifa to my surprise. If fifa don't sort there game out I don't think I will ever buy another fifa game. Rant over.

Yeah it’s been bad, but it’s now even worse than last year, say. The lack of fouls and cards, that is.

One good thing is that the handballs are working now. They are a bit too frequent, I’d say. But at least they’re working as intended (I suppose).

I don't know if anyone else has noticed or it is just in my game but I have seen an increase in cards, not by much. Which would be great but it is only for the human player. There is definitely an advantage for the CPU and seem free to hack down anyone.
I have seen the CPU get a yellow for a Pen but it is so rare. Having yellow/red cards in game makes human players think a bit more which is the way it should be but when the CPU gets away with blatant fouls it just kills immersion.

Yes. I’ve seen 2 or 3 AI cards per season. That’s not great.

As I said on another thread, you have to play hack at the back to stand a chance of getting a card. They bring things in to the game that work and then for no reason remove them. There was a few years back a options to argue with the ref, no purpose really, but it happens in real life so why not add it to the game (used the mic, so at times the commentators got you in trouble, but they could have fixed that).

They need to keep features and stop removing them, you also appear to have robo refs, as they can see a slight touch when both players are running full speed, it just would not happen in real life.

I have been playing ML in PES and the Refs in there are far from perfect. You do get a lot of free kicks especially against you and for the most minor of things and sometimes for what appears to be nothing at all so PES has got work to do there as well.

The lack of cards in both games is an issue and getting a card for a proper offence is even more of an issue especially for the CPU. It seems such a minor thing to implement yet they ignore it.

Did they fix this? I stopped playing because of the complete lack of AI fouls in Career Mode. Was wondering if any of the patches fixed this so I dont reinstall for nothing :)

There seems to be more cards being issued recently, but still not to the level it should be

What about AI fouls? Are there more of them now?

Yes, for the first time in a long time. I have had the AI carded

Sadly I’m still not seeing any AI cards. Any. This is a football game without cards.

Just checked out 6 matches from today (La Liga and EFL 2):

    8 yellows
    3 yellows plus 1 red
    8 yellows
    2 yellows
    No cards
    2 yellows

Would expect to see at least a couple of yellows per game on average. Also from AI (e.g., also in player career).

Oh I now realize I don’t have the latest update. So maybe it is better now.

But if so, the change would have to have come in the very latest update
