1st Weekend League of 21 Review... No Money, No Skill, No Tactics
I'm pretty casual as FIFA players go, sr floats between 700-100, I only play to R3 in rivals each week and mainly play friendlies but thought I'd play this weekend to see what all the fuss is about, I played 2 WLs last year. I play on PC
my team consisted mainly of untradeables as I don't want to play stock market simulator or throw money at the screen
The team
Corona, Goldson, Tavernier all came from the TOTW upgrade and I already owned an untradeable JWP. The only player i bought was Felipe Anderson. My tactics were pretty much standard except for stay back on Danilo Pereira. Pretty much the only skill I can successfully perform is fake shot
I finished 9-13 (Silver 2) which was better than i expected, I had a lot of close games but the final game i played did me in (3-2 up after 118 mins, lost 4-3) I just can't seem to defend leads, scored in every match (even the couple i was up against clearly better players)
In terms of teams faced almost everyone had better teams than me (in terms of coin value) WBY was very prevalent, also faced a lot of Griezmann (who apparently can just body everyone for fun) and I had a run on Sunday morning of only facing Bundes teams most of which I beat, shout out to the 74 rated japanese team which was harder to beat than i expected.
The Standouts
Felipe Anderson scored 22 in 15 games after I bought him(was using Marega prior)2 decent feet nice dribbling and very happy to do his RTTF SBC after having success with him
James Ward Prowse passed around 40 times per game in most games, got up and down well, created chances (though lacked assists, as most were passes into the assisting player) scored 7/8 pens and a cracking free kick
James Tavernier didn't play all of the games I flipped between him and Wan Bissaka at the start but Tavernier became the RB of choice due to his ability getting forward, ending with 12 assists and being brough down for several pens
Nick Pope seems to be the go to cheap keeper, i can see why, he made some good saves, however he seems weaker than most to near post goals
Marcos Llorente is very meta and its easy to tell why, great box to box scored 10 goals always seems to be available to attack or defend
The Mediocre
Juan Bernat did ok, but didn't feel fast enough or strong enough and seemed to be gassed within 60 mins
Mario Hermoso wasn't great, had a few games where he just seemed to go missing, but there isn't another CB who can perfect link to Llorente, so its stick with him or change my LB and CB
The Gameplay
Smooth with no problems in any match, zero complaints
i enjoyed myself, paced myself to play no more than 4/5 matches in a burst and only my own ineptitude in defending a lead kept me from doing better. I'll definitely play again once i have the points
I have already made minor adjustments to me team, bringing in RTTF Felipe Anderson and RTTF Grimaldo, considering Joe Gomez at RCB

I haven't played FIFA in a number of years, got gifted 21 from a mate, & I sound like I'm in the same boat as you. My skill levels are low (I did used to be good, years ago), II'm on PC with the hax, refuse to spend a penny on packs, & majority of my team is untradable, and very similar to yours...
In all honesty, I haven't really played FIFA online for years, even when I was still buying FIFA, I was done with online, too aggravating. But I thought, ❤️❤️❤️❤️ it, let's try again. 5 qualifying matches for rivals, me with a bronze team... tell me how I won 4 of 5 and got put into a ridiclous division & I didn't have a gold team, joy.
Cue me constantly getting rinsed 8-0, because my bronze players couldn't handle the 2 through ball and shoot tactic, nor could they handle anyone running at them in a straight line. This was infuriating, BUT, I was learning to defend the meta with bronze players... after like an 11 match losing streak, although I was scoring, I thought it's time to spend those Rivals coins I won, upgraded to a gold team, sorted some tactics, & wow. I haven't lost yet.
I am wary about WL though, I've never tried it, I can't handle the sweat... But I want to do it now I'm ranking in the top rank on Rivals, I think I can manage a few wins to be honest, & who knows, I may even surprise myself. I'll be happy just finishing in a rank where I get a player pick though, I want some FUT Champs cards, I've never had one.
I did enjoy reading your write up though, & it gave me a little confidenc boost for when I do enter the WL, good luck for next week if you jump back in!

Ahhh, I already know that mate but to be honest, I tend to build teams from every league, so I'd be pretty much happy with most things... Plus I'm a no cash player, so anything is good by me!
I mean my best pull so far is IF Ward Prowse... who's ❤️❤️❤️❤️ in reality, but destroys games for me and I really enjoy the card with his 60 pace!
