Honestly you just need instructions on him. As a stay back CDM he is amazing. Work rates only matter on balanced.

Surprisingly good. Using him balanced CM on 4-3-3 (4) he's on 16 games 9 goals 4 assists.

Now I'm playing against tougher opponents in the latter stages of WL, I think I might have to put him on stay back.

Kimmich is incredible, one of the best box to box cms-cdms in the game. Agility, passing, defense, stamina, physicality, and he can shoot — worth keeping if you can fit him.
