I personally think this game is developed with kids in mind. They develop the game as casual, simplistic as possible, because kids are easily manipulated and they can spend their mum/dads credit cards on Fifa points.
What age bracket do you think EA target with Fifa games? 103 votes

Old enough now that their parents let them go online with their mates to play games. Can't go out (mostly) at night as they're too young. So they're trapped indoors with not alot to do.
Most boys of this age like sport, gaming and socialising with friends. But most importantly they are impressionable and can get addicted quite easily to new things.
Throw in peer pressure to keep up with their mates UT teams and its the perfect storm. What do you want for your birthday Timmy?? Just some Fifa points please. 'I guess it keeps him out of trouble and in the house.'
Then gradually over the years they'll start getting pocket money and earning their own money so start dropping £10 here, £10 there. Before you know it EA have got a Fifa point junkie and its mission accomplished....
Couldn’t have word this better..
Kids with a paper round or adults with a salary?
EA know that alot of men and woman love football and when playing Ultimate Team they will want to play with the best players. This is a perfect market for them.
I don't think there's as many kids that play this mode as many seem to think. Any kids that I know around my family and friends don't play Ultimate Team they stick online seasons on for a few games here and there but don't get as attached to the game as us adults do.
Would be great to sometime see the average age of the FUT playerbase. I've a feeling it would be alot higher than most expect.
What he said.
Yeah, may want that demo, but they don’t play it long. I mean the range they need to keep happy is wide, and this game isn’t easy. The curve is huge. I’ve seen the same people for a decade. Everyone I know that plays year after year are 25 plus.
I hate admitting it but to be honest that describes my experience perfectly, started in Fifa 12, spent a couple hundred every year when I was younger to keep up with mates who spent FP and when I first got to Uni it got even worse. Though I realised I was being dumb and managed to spend nothing this year and won't in the future. Oh well, onto the next one for EA. Probably sounds dumb to most of you but I can easily see how kids spend thousands if they're from a fairly well off family.
Realize that (1) the vast majority of the player base are adults.
(2) This game is predicated on a p2w/gambling scheme. Children don't have money. Ergo it's self-evident which group of people they target.
Think about that next time you're dabbed on that there's a twenty-something manlet on the other of the line enjoying himself :>
Wouldn’t necessarily say so. A large portion of the spendings comes from people with a stable income (like you mentioned the 22+ section). On the other hand they’re luring kids in there, mainly the ones watching all the FIFA youtubers. Cheeky 20 Euro FP sale here and there based on the whole mass of 14-21 year olds contributes to a large portion to FP sales and therefore revenue. I’d say basically everyone 14+ is their peer group.
Are there valid data that the majority are adults?
pretty fair point of view. they are for kids that have wealthy parents. if I spend couple hundred every year when I am 15 yo my parents will kill me
Several independent sizeable polls both on Reddit and on this forum have established that. And that's pretty much as valid as it can get for FIFA.
I haven't seen any polls about the average age of your regular reoccurring spender. I've seen polls about the average age on here, but most of us are against buying microtransactions. The old guard, we know what gaming was like before microtransactions. While children growing up today have become accustomed too microtransaction gaming, they'll see no wrong in spending their weekly pocket money.
It makes sense for EA to target the younger playerbase, they'll be more inclined to continue spending over the years.
SBC fodder
Meta
End game
Weak foot
Amusingly they'll say TOTS as a word instead of team of the season.
Usable/unusable
'packing'
They also generally always get FPs for birthdays and Christmas. Worrying times
To be fair I’m 32, and like using the chomps the shark stuff
Well I strongly disagree about that. I think it's fairly obvious that EA operates on relative short-term profitability, which makes sense here due to the nature of uncertainty surrounding lootboxes. The sky isn't falling down for them tomorrow or even maybe two years from now, but sooner than later they'll be forced to adjust and the idea that they're sort of "preping" the adolescents of today to become the addicted slaves to digital Panini cards with disposable income in 5 to 10 years down the road is quite a stretch and unrealistic in my mind.
What's more likely is that they're striking the iron while it's hot and making the most of their unlicensed and unregulated gambling scheme and again, the teenagers simply don't have that kind of money to splash around. The trend of young gamers is clear: they either gravitate toward cartoonish and free to play games such as fortnite and minecraft and/or essentially free competitive eSport titles such as CS:GO and Overwatch. Keep in mind that FIFA is actually a very expensive video game in comparison: it's essentially a one year barebone game pass for 60£. Excluding optional premium edition with important perks such early access (aka delayed access for everyone else), "free packs" and what not. Excluding FIFA points which is pretty much mandatory to keep up with the curve. So in reality, the game runs you what maybe 250£/year if you're conservative; conversely, CS:GO costs like 5£ and lasts you one decade.
You know how much kids love football, their idols and fav teams. So they’ll deffo buy the game each year*
The money mostly comes from the pro teams packing for their teams, I think.
it's about getting them hooked and brand loyalty.
get them involved while at school, they may only spend pocket money, but within 3 years they will be earning and as young kids likely still at home, have a lot of disposable income....and become your mainstream revenue.
Exactly the same as McD"s business model.
Like the teacher above, I coach youth football and from 12+ every Sat morning when they chat before training its 'who did you pack'
the younger kids i coach 6-10 are all about Fortnite
