Formations - What are you using?

With lots of you playing EA Access those starting squads must be getting complete now.

What in-game formations are you running?

Anything you've noticed different to last year? Perhaps there's a formation you're doing well with you've never used, or maybe your favourite one is no longer your go to?

I've been trying 4231 as I know it's a popular formation but I can't get on with it, never have. The trusty 41212 (2) is doing well as always, but it's interesting to hear about other peoples experiences.

    How's it working for you?

What kind of custom tactics are you running with?

I think tactics might be the reason I'm having issues with 4231. Usually use fast build up but possession might be better.

    442(2) always
Balde and Henry Onyekuru on the wings
This year opens up lots of space with the pace back.

I feel like the 4-3-3(2) will be stronger than usual this year from what I've seen.

Definitely want something with width, want to be able to hold the ball, having possession and being countered occasionally will be better than a ping pong formation that gets you countered more often with no control.

Would like to try a 4-3-1-2 with overlapping fullbacks (and CCM staying back, almost making a back 3). Anybody else happen to play this formation and possibly use those tactics?

Will try the 3142 tonight. Was ruined last year, was solid in the demo as the players arent in weird positions.

It's got width, a dm to make the play.

And I use 2 strikers that fit each other

I play 4-2-3-1 with only st get in behind and fullbacks to stay back. Rest on balance.

Tactics on balance and defensive width on 4 depth on 3.

Works good I think. But it’s difficult to adapt to the new game. Might be because almost everyone that plays atm is over average. But I’m usually lower div 1 player and now I’m playing even in div 5 😅

    41212 narrow. CDM holding, 2 attacking CM's.

4-1-2-1-2 narrow is working fantastic mate. Since crossing isn't effective anymore, having lots of numbers in the middle is a godsend.

    @Retro_G

Wingers and pace are god though, unless you're the best 4-1-2-1-2(2) player in the world and don't lose the ball (apparently ping pong isn't as good) won't you just get slaughtered on the counters out wide every time there's some turnover?

442 works great, since low passing into box works great, also lob passes.

    Haven’t made a team yet but most likely either a 4411 or 442. Maybe a 4132

I will stick to 4231. Made the mistake of switching all over the place last year. Its the only formation am comfortable with. Won my first 5 placement game last night with random ❤️❤️❤️❤️ players playing 4231. I think the new additional player instruction will only make it more stronger.

Not playing it because am a sheep, but its the only formation am comfortable with. There is always a player to pass to all over the pitch.

Also the new L1 dribbling crab all over direction will make it to keep possession. It needs nerfing adap

I use my fullbacks for width, ping pong still works. I've not had many problems defending the wing, you just got to change to your fullback manually, anticipate the pass to the wing.

4212(2) always does me good, tactics same as always 2 or 3 depth and about balanced on width.

  • 4231 just because I’m using Everton squad. Probably change to 442 or441 at some time in few weeks.

Plain old, flat 4-4-2 works for me. I feel it has lot of wide options with wings and fullbacks, strong mid and 2 strikers.

4-2-2-2 enjoying it at the minute but usually use 3-5-2 so mite change to give it a go
