Really has been an abysmal day for VAR across leagues. :joy:

BTW, Higuain today played in Allegri's famous "advanced regista" role, dropping back to collect balls and passing them around.
Didn't work too badly, in the end.

That position is normally the centrepiece of Sarri’s attack, evidenced through Mertens at Napoli and Hazard at Chelsea (and Piggy likely would have played that role there had his form not dropped). Surely the Lukaku rumours were BS given his technical inabilities.

I suppose Sarri not wanting Dybala makes sense, then.

You literally just highlighted Mertens and Hazard as other examples of "advanced regista", two technical players in the same vein as Dybala.

    What a game

Both teams with not exactly watertight defences.
Has to be said, Napoli's last 10 minutes were a million times calmer than our own. :D That's what we're supposed to be aiming for, to keep control of the game.
Hopefully with the home crowd it will be easier.

See I was going to mention him, but doesn’t he specialise with an out-and-out striker in front of him?

Sure does, but that didn't stop Hazard and Mertens, who were wingers, to work as false nines for Sarri.
And Dybala did play as an out-and-out striker for Palermo, so staying in front isn't new for him at all.

    That’s true.

Nobody really understands Sarri’s motives TBH

In fairness, it has to be said that yesterday we played with probably our worst midfield possible plus the wrong striker in the middle and the wrong RB... and in the first half we did pretty well nonetheless. There was one very nice exchange between Costa, Pjanic, Higuain, and Ronaldo which didn't lead to a goal, I probably would have celebrated that as a CL-winning goal due to the one-touch passing that NEVER HAPPENED with Allegri. :joy: Oh well.
It seems like with Costa's and Khedira's substitutions everything went haywire. Cuadrado was his usual useless self, while Rabiot looked lost in midfield and possibly even slower than Khedira.
I sincerely hope yesterday was a rare case of Sarri putting out a B team in preparation for the match against Napoli...

How many games are Juve fans expecting De Ligt to start this season because isn't Sarri known for not rotating teams often

Ahh it's back finally. I never come on the forums anymore, stopped playing FUT in January. Try to drop in more with the new FUT coming in a few weeks.

    Forza Milan.

Two CAMs and a winger in a midfield three.
    Yikes.

    Just cancel the season

All preseason I thought “well at least we won’t have Borini starting in midfield when the games count”

    And here we are...

Nothing finalized yet. Monaco, PSG, and Roma have all been rumored to be interested.

Can someone tell me how Giampaolo is an improvement to Gattuso?

He's playing one of the worst midfield 3's I've ever seen and Milan are just terrible going forward

Apparently Bennacer and Kessie weren’t fully fit and ready to play after being away for AFCON, Biglia hurt, Bonaventura not fully fit yet...hence this disaster of a midfield

That was grim, not a single shot on goal from Milan.

I’ll reserve too much judgement for now

    Piatek-Leao (or Correa)
    Suso
    Paqueta-Bennacer-Kessie

Is so much better than that trash we played today

As long is it doesn’t take them half the season to be up to speed *eyeroll*

Giampaolo is apparently going to switch to 433.

We looked just as bad in friendlies as we did today, certainly wasn't helped by our midfield situation, Hakan can't play regista and Borini is just terrible all around.

I'm willing to give Giampaolo time, at least he seems to understand that his 4312 isn't going to work with this team, and instead of insisting with it until it's too late, he's going to make a change.

Still take him over Gattuso anyday.

I wish AFCON didn’t happen...the team that played the friendlies and game today should not be the one we usually see...too many players as you say out of position and just overall terrible

I was hoping all the “projected 11” posts in the media were false this week...but they ended up being true and the result was expected

And if we're changing to 4-3-3...better find a LW in the last days of the market or we’re in the same boat as last year there
