Serious Question, are we at the beginning of the end?

I have played FIFA for a long time now, FIFA 97 being my first game. I have never been so unenthused with a game as this one. I know a lot of people seem to be the same, considering some of the posts on here.

The game has some pros, but there are a lot of cons. I’m 30 now, I want to play a game for fun, and there is no fun. No cups, no bronze or silver games. Sweat sweat sweat. I can’t see myself buying next years instalment, particularly when the game never seems to change.

I understand a business wants to make money, and boy they are good at that, but it would be nice if they considered their fan base. To me, no SBC content in a “FUTMAS” promo on Xmas day? Ludicrous.

Interested to hear other opinions on this, as obviously I am just one man, and I am sure there are people out there happy with the game.

100% on the road to the end now unless big changes happen. EA this year have done nothing but try and annoy its player base over and over again.

I’m the same. Been playing fifa for years. Ultimate team since 2014. This is by far the worse by a long long long way and will definitely be my last

If people keep buying packs then it'll never end.

On the "managerial" side each year FUT is improved. In a very good way. Currently you have far more than before, and more fun playing in different ways.
The bronze/silver/gold tournament era was BORING! You had always the same thing to do, and close the end of the season in bronze/silver tournament you were facing minutes (even 10/15 minutes) to wait for an opponent in semifinal/final, if you were lucky to find one. And lag was far worse than today.

On the "gameplay" side, it's personal. This year I really hate all these finesse shots, as almost anyone at a good level is playing in that way. I think I get scored a cross+header each 10 matches... almost nobody tries that. It's always "ball back, trying to find a way to shoot just outside the area". It's ridicolous that half of the goals I get scored against is from the outside with a finesse shot from a technical player (it isn't needed someone expensive, I could understand it with the best but if a normal Firmino works well it's an issue). It's the first year I can remember that a certain way to score is so overpowered compared to the other ones, and it's a bad thing.

As I say, happy to hear other opinions, and I do agree with the wait for a bronze/silver match. But it was more casual at least and not the grind that the game is now.

Where I do wholeheartedly agree with you is those ruddy timed finesses. I am sick of them. When you have bleeding matuidi scoring a timed finesse outside the area with his weak foot you know it’s a broken feature.

They might improve some of these points you mention next year and yes then it's the beginning of the end for the old fans.

Also a new beginning for some new fans probably

I think they will revitalize the series in FIFA 20. New chem system is majorly overdue and that will change FUT massively

I played fifa 09 as my first and then tried earlier versions... I stopped playing after fifa 12 due to time issues and came back with fifa 17... liked it, but [;ayed on friends account... fifa 18 bought it and liked it... brought fifa 19 thinking it will be better or atleast good enough... But after playing this version, this will be my last... Will try some other game next year onwards or may be sooner..

Is any other company likely to be able or want to outbid EA on licensing, unfortunately I doubt it.

I just wish that one day EA will have a new real competitor (not PES) who can take the licenses and create a good football game. because I think EA will never change. they will always be a greedy company that doesn't appreciate their customers.

Hopefully it'll be a new game engine next year. No more frostbite. That should make a difference but unless it changes I'm done.

I’ve been playing since 95 on the mega drive. This will be my last 1 I get. As people have said it’s nit a game for the player to just play now n again.

Problem is the licences and so.many people value them so highly that they almost (and on some cases actually do) trump gameplay.

Back in the old days when licences weren't the be all and end all, there would be 3 or 4 decent football games out at once, and the competition would drive innovation.

Sadly now, people are so licence focused that the very idea of playing a game with madchester reds v London Guns no matter how exquisite the gameplay is unimaginable.

There is no wriggle room for another football title because of this.

The problem is the vast majority, the masses, probably don't think there's any real problem.
Forum members, for any game, tend to be the very vocal, tiny minority.
Plus, E.A have already proven that the only thing that matters is selling Fifa points; over and above any notion of creating something sustainably authentic and interesting.

I'd like a game that took a few months to actually learn how to play, and that required an understanding of football; which allowed me to have a distinct playstyle and offered me a way to express my creativity.
Instead, we have a scenario where E.A wants everyone to be able to pick up and play with relative ease, so they can start selling fifa points asap.

So I see no change next year.

But the kids, and the streamers, and the You Tubers who complain but still spend small fortunes on points and promote the game to their audience, and the casuals, will carry on as normal and they'll buy it because their friends all have it and they all want to be the next Pro Player, and the shills in gaming journalism will all give it 9/10, and E.A will spend millions advertising it and putting the kids hero on the box.

Consequently, they'll buy Fifa 20, and the next one, and the one after, and the one after that...and the game won't get any better, save a step forward here and there which will be patched after they have our money.

  • There was a time when Madden dominates the sports gaming industry. It’s shocking to me EA didn’t learn their lesson from the fall of that franchise. They didn’t listen to their fan base over there very well and now it’s fallen down to 3rd behind FIFA and NBA 2k. It would actually be 4th if MLB the show was available on Xbox one.

EA has never been very good at listening to it’s fans. It has fifa locked down because of licensing. Otherwise a competitor would already be right on its heels imo

    Game has record sales

    Record FP profits

EA is plastered everywhere in the FOOTBALL world

They are OFFICIAL partners with the leagues lol

    They are involved with everything

Irregardless of any EA stock dip or other franchises going down for a bit, FIFA's going nowhere, it's free and easy money

Like I said, it’s the licensing. Without that, competitors don’t really stand a chance. I think the game is in its worst state since I’ve been playing (95 on sega lol) but I love football more than I hate this company/game.

They bend me over and I just take it. A bitter relationship.

No. There is no alternative. As frustrating as the game is and EA continue to be, its not so much that any of us will stop playing it (even if we dont commit to it as much as we could).

They will continue to lower our expectations and feed off a certain section of people who are quite literally addicted to opening packs.

This is what I’ve been saying. Fifa is in a churn cycle. They’re don’t want the old school players to quit. But they don’t care if we do. They’re counting on bringing in new players that are too young to have ever player a good football game.

Probably this for me, been playing since 94, rejoined fifa around 07 when PES lost its glory, played the first FUT when it was an add on played each one every year and never got past November/December before it got boring due to the grind.

This year I have amassed the best players and coin total I have ever had but I have no enthusiasm in playing the game right now, its like having a second job.

I imagine 20 will be similar to this year and my interest will only be touched if and when they use a new engine where the game will actually be different.

I think the uniqueness and excitement of the game mode is dying as it gets older and EA are desperately trying to keep people hooked. Like others have said above, I think FUT is going downhill, but EA will find ways to prolong its lifespan.
