WL vs Rivals (Connection / Gameplay Experience)

Asking here as opposed to GD as I'm hoping to get some non-tinfoil hat answers. Just wanted to ask people's experience of rivals and WL gameplay and how they compare. I'm not talking all of that scripting, fixing, "I hit the post all the time in WL" stuff.

I'm just talking general smoothness and pace of gameplay, lag, input delay, all of that stuff.

I find that weekend league is, mostly, really quite good actually. I know people complain about servers a lot but I'd say most of my WL games the gameplay feels at a reasonably normal, balanced pace, I don't get crippling input delay, I generally feel like if I lose its because I deserve it and if I win its because I deserve it.

By contrast, rivals is awful, half of the games feel like they're in fast forward and the other half are being played in quick sand. Half of the games I feel like I've got half an hour to move before my opponent can react the other half I feel like I'm watching someone run circles round me while I'm drunk.

Is this common for most people? Do other people find it more that rivals is better than WL?

Sub question: is rivals peer to peer matchmaking with a definite host and a guest? Is the home player always the host? That's how the old divisions worked, yeah? That was always pretty smooth for me.

Has rivals changed to be hosted by the server now?

I enjoy WL more than Rivals this year. I guess it's because in WL there's a wider net of people you get to play.

Where as in Rivals you play those people in your division. Once you get to a certain division all the people you play against would kick their granny over for a win. So constant pressure, drop back, finesse etc etc and it's just about as fun as sticking your head down the toilet.

I don't disagree with this but I also don't really understand it. In WL I absolutely need every win, in rivals I couldn't give a stuff. I've been in div 5 forever, if I lose I lose it doesn't bother me at all.

Delay has always been worse for me in Rivals than WL...seems to be same experience of streamers that I’ve seen also, with noticeable button delay. I tried to play at 9a.m. yesterday thinking less people would be on but it was so unresponsive and button presses wouldn’t sometimes register. 2 and a bit hours previously, my WL gampleplay was smooth and responsive.

Glad it's not just me then tbf. Every weekend there's people upset about the connection and I'm sure they must be struggling but I'm usually fine.

It's mid week that's awful. Getting to a point I only really want to play wl now.

Aaah, thanks. Kinda figures tbh. Would probably be better peer to peer, I never had problems with divisions.

Connection wise, WL is far better than Rivals but that’s not exactly saying much. Only time I get constant smooth games is when I play my mates in Friendly Seasons. Their servers are absolutely atrocious.

Yeah WL is better than Rivals, connection wise.
Rivals should be p2p like season used to be.

i completely agree that WL is smoother and better, for me anyway.

Played 22 games this week, finishing on 19-2, ran out of time to play more.

Last night i played 4 division rivals matches against worse opposition in DIV 4 and lost 3 and drew 1. Same team, yet the gameplay seems to be different. Much slower, teams seem to sit deeper and passing isn't always on point.

It's strange as you would think the mechanics would be the same for both modes.

I was a div.1 player in fifa17 and fifa18....i’m stuck in div.5 in fifa19....but my WL results are the same (gold2/3) as last year.
So something’s not working in DR for me....
