Columbus Crew is a Major League Soccer team based in Columbus, Ohio. The club is one of the ten charter teams that has existed since MLS's inaugural season in 1996. Mapfre Stadium, where the club plays its home games, was the first ever soccer-specific stadium built for an MLS team with a seating capacity of 19,968, relatively small compared to some MLS stadiums built since, but hey, you gotta start somewhere.

Anthony Precourt acquired the team on July 30th, 2013, and later rebranded the club from Columbus Crew to Columbus Crew SC with a new logo. On November 6th, 2013, Precourt hired Greg Berhalter as manager and first Sporting Director in club history. In 2014, the team set club attendance records for most cumulative attendance and for most sellouts.

Fast forward to October 17th, 2017...

In a nutshell, the "Modell Law" is a piece of Ohio legislation that was enacted back in 1996 after Art Modell, then owner of the Cleveland Browns of the NFL, decided to move the team to Baltimore, Maryland. The law prohibits sports teams that benefited from public facilities or financial assistance from relocating to another city without a six-month notice, and without first attempting to sell the team to a local ownership group.

    NOTE:
The 2018 season is already underway, and the story picks up after Columbus Crew SC has played their first five matches.

:D :D oh man that part about the cobra kai dojo’s cracked me up. I don’t follow the MLS much (just can’t get into it) but I do listen to United States of soccer in the morning on Sirius sometimes and this whole Columbus issue comes up a lot. Been crazy following it. Eager to see how you move forward

Not the best start... anyway I will never understand how a club tied to a city can move so easily.

Really poor start but in case of Chester Lee it just can get better. Not the easiest stand as a newly appointed manager...especially with the fanbase angry and torn about the pending move to Austin. I also don't understand the fact clubs can move so easily in the US. Doesn't matter if it's football or American football or something else. Nobody can really build up a relationship with the teams.

Ha! You got the Karate Kid reference! I only added that at the last minute after I stumbled across the promo video for a new series on Youtube, reminded me of part 3 and how dumb the plot was. :D
I've been watching MLS regularly since the Galaxy signed a decent TV deal around the time that Beckham joined the team. Coverage was spotty before that and nationally televised games are still limited, but I can honestly say that the league has come a long way in just the last few years alone (since Portland joined in particular). I suppose it helps to have a local team that you can watch regularly. I would be seriously PO'd if the Galaxy relocated.

The bad start was by design (I simmed through the preseason and the first month of play). I don't think it will be so easy for the Crew to move (and I hope they don't, they're an original club). In all fairness, there are two sides of the story I'm discovering as I read more about it. Columbus Crew have been losing money and MLS doesn't want another failed club (there have been a few), but I personally think Precourt is the wrong owner that hasn't done his part to connect with the community. Garber and MLS should recognize that.

Will be a difficult season as I've added more manual settings. I'm still not good enough for full manual so I have semi-assisted crossing whereas in the past I only used manual passing and shooting. MLS doesn't generate the kind of revenues that some other leagues in this country do, so I understand their concern for markets that lose money. Precourt is a douche, however, and looks like he didn't even try since he purchased the team (interesting history on that, which I'll touch upon later). MLS needs to vet its ownership better and chose people or entities that are closer to the community and not 2,000 miles away.

Trust me, Columbus is not taking the move well. The history of the Cleveland Browns move was interesting. Cleveland fought back and got their team back. Hopefully Columbus will prevail in the end.

Good start with a sublime first half. Good to see Zardes fitting in right away now. Glad that Chicago left there scoring boots somewhere else.

Thanks. Might seem like overkill, but I've gotten to a point where I can add them without much effort. Still trying to develop a rhythm for the other parts.

Decent win since it was technically the first game I played. The manual settings I added this season are making it a lot harder for me, especially creating chances on offense. Chicago didn't defend the wing very well and they paid for it early on. I sat back on defense the second half to protect the lead and pick up the first win, hence the shot disparity.

26-1 shots? :o Wow the team is really missing some creativity up front. Not many chances were created during the last games...something that should really be worked on on the training ground.

The team are really struggling although the form in the last 5 games seems to have improved with just one loss in five it is still cause for concern as there is only one win in five as well

Sorry: you shoot 26 times, less than a third on target and no goals. And I thought my team was inaccurate.

Terrible form lately... early exit in the US Cup, then followed by a strange 0-0 after 26 shots (!!!!). The team are really having a bad time and a change soon. The last 5 games expose the bad form of the team.

    Which is the problem?

I was surprised by the number of shots, to be honest, because it didn't seem that DC United troubled me more than a few times (Rooney had two that went just wide of the mark). Most of the shots were from distance or bad angles. They did have a flurry towards the end of regulation.

I simmed the first five games so I would start a little in the hole. Passing is uneven as I get used to manual settings and the offense has suffered because of it.

Can't blame it on the controller this time as I got a new one. :p (made a world of difference, though)
Team is suffering a confidence issue due to lack of ownership commitment and a sudden coaching change. That being said, the team has a solid back line and keeper, and Chester will build upon that. There are only 2 strikers on the roster and the team plays conservatively by default. It might take a few games to figure out some stuff. Target right now is that sixth and final playoff spot (or better). Would have been nice to go farther in the cup to play some reserves, but it wasn't a priority (Anthony Precourt could give a crap :D ).

Something wonky with the way the game registers shots. How do I have only one shot on target when I have two goals with two assists?

Great job in these two games, which allow the team to climb in the league table. Considering the level of the rivals, these 2 victories were a must. Well done!

Two very important wins. But still, this team does rely on the opponents failure in front of goal too much I would say. At least they've been clinical with their own chances to come out with the 6 points.

Not the best image but points are important at this stage as the team builds confidence and an identity.

I don't know what the deal is with the shots, but it's making me look worse on offense than I really am. :p

That is true. Defense does really well when the opponent has to bring the ball up from its own half. However, team turns the ball over too much in our own half, whether it's improperly weighted passes or not taking care of the ball; lack of respect for Chester Lee during training has led to some sloppy play. :D

Confidence is better and the team has some positive sequences, but still finding the right approach to offense.

Thanks, the match graphics are a culmination of some things I've learned how to do in Excel. I spent some time over the summer improving what I've done in the past. The initial design was (re)created from scratch using shape and chart objects, but the values, team logos, and (I finally figured out how) the team colors are updated by a custom user form, so I don't physically have to modify the graphic for changes. It took a lot of time to create but takes very little time to update.

The team has pulled itself up from the basement it shared with Chicago, but we do have an extra game played , so our position in the table might be inflated. Still, we're right there.
