For example, Nakata is legendary in Asia. Luis Hernandez is popular in Mexico. Both are iconic figures and deserve to be recognized, but these players are not internationally famous for their abilities.

It is still inexplicable that EA completely ignored MLS All Stars. Since FIFA 13, EA has partnered with MLS to select one member of the MLS AS team with their “more than a vote” challenge (MLS player with the most goals scored across all game modes gets MLS All Star spot). To continue this promotion as normal but then to put zero MLS AS content makes zero sense.

FFS this game mode put a player in the all star game.

They should probably have an MLS icon... Throw a bone here or there. I guess Pele might count as one? He played on the states for a while.

But honestly, Tim Howard is not an icon.

We do have some of those already. Pelé, Matthaus, (altho they were in the old NASL), Nesta, Henry, and I’m sure I am forgetting some.

Tim Howard, Kasey Keller, and Brad Friedel are all iconic American keepers, but Howard is still an active player.

On the bright side, there should be a nice golden Yedlin card this year :)

But yeah it’s not fair that some nations missed out, someone like Graham Souness would have been nice for Scotland, some USA guy and maybe a couple of Tamil’s and a Mongolian or 2. I mean we got an Ozzy but nobody from PNG :'(

I want Yedlin to stay silver, felt like a snowflake using him in my prem sides.

America deserves an icon. I'm biased, yes, but if you look at our world cup performance over the years, we've actually been a relatively consistent team. Before failing to qualify this year, we had at least made the round of 16 in 5 of the last 6 world cups, including a quarter finals appearance in 2002. That deserves at least 1 icon IMO. Not bad for a country where soccer is like the 5th most popular sport.

I'd like to see more representation from areas outside of Europe. I want to see more Africans represented, and more South Americans not from Brazil/Argentina.

I completely agree with you @RayS

But it's not only the USA. Countries like Belgium and Scotland also have players who would deserve an Icon card.

Like I read here, if the likes of Nakata, Hernandez or Shearer can get Icon cards, there's no way that f. Ex. a Belgian player like Preud'Homme wouldn't deserve one

I think its because you can't give Donovan or Lallas a 87+ rate prime card.

Shearer is the all-time leading goalscorer in the EPL.

A quick google (because I’d never heard of him) tells me that Preud’Homme is a goalkeeper who won the Yashin award in 1994. Not bad, but not quite Shearer.

Yeah he was some gk who used to play for Benfica, not really as recognised globally as Alan Shearer lol. Not sure if some prior comments were trying to bait English people or not.
But then maybe I am just as guilty with my earlier comment regarding Mongolian players etc.., missing out. Sorry USA, I do actually think your footballers are more iconic than those from PNG, Mongolia and Sri Lanka :*:*:*:*

Hopefully this post doesn’t disappear like my last longer winded attempt :'(

The game is tailored for premier league followers and that’s about it, is why.

The Prem has nothing to do with America not getting icons :D . The reason there's no American icons is because no American players deserve to be, it's hardly a dominant country in the sport it's like saying why is there no icons from Mongolia

This.....American icons....maybe for soccer...no american player deserve this , let s make then all the past players icons...

Could argue Claudio Reyna is the only one deserving imo.

Brian McBride was the GOAT though.

    Edit - forgot about Donovan.

Carlton Cole is iconic to West Ham fans, but he won't be getting an icon card any time soon.

But now you're comparing a club icon to a national icon, you cannot compare the two when it comes to putting them in the game as Icons

At the end of the day, the US players just weren't on the level of the current icons. They're not world cup, champions league, ballon d'or winners.

Did Jay-Jay Okocha win any of those titles you mention?

You know Brad Friedel held the record for consecutive appearances in the PL right? He was a great keeper as well. How about Pacey Keller? Another good keeper. Or Brian McBride? Carlos Bocanegra? All these players have played in the top leagues in Europe, how can you say they are not deserving or on the level of some of the Icons in the game already?

Surely the players i mentioned have done rge same for US soccer as Jay-Jay did for African football?

JJ is probably the only icon on the game that didn't win one of those.

If they give icons for the likes of those players, then literally every player who's played in a top league ever could be worthy of an icon.
