Not necessarily true mate, the premier league is the best and most popular league in the world. So it's hardly surprising it's popular in a game. Going by the ratings so far is say serie A is going to be VERY popular this year, especially with the inclusion of Ronaldo

You start with “not necessarily” but then you agree with me. I agree that it’s the most popular league in the world. That’s why EA boosts it up with random icons and pretend SBCs.

No, I disagreed with you in terms of all the games so far, then I said given the rating we've seen in 19 (the game that's not out yet) that the serie A will overtake the BPL in FIFA.

I'm not sure what that abbreviation means but your lying to yourself if you don't think the PL is the best League there is....

The American team didn't qualify for a world cup between 1950 and 1990 or something like that. And let's be honest their greatest players since? Landon Donovan, Tim Howard, Clint Dempsey, Brad Friedel are not really on the level of the icons in game already.

There are no American icons as they simply aren't good enough as for Scotland dalgleish is the only one who would get one snm

Can't say any American definitely deserves it, but if we're going by that Icon distinction vs Legend, I think Donovan and Howard could get one when they're definitely retired. And if backup/unproven players can be some of the best players in this game, I don't see why that can't be extended to American players. I'm in favor of even more icons from different countries, they don't have to be overpowered though.

Although I think Dagleish more than deserves one, I think he wouldn’t be great in this current Fifa as he wasn’t strong or fast enough from what I saw as a kid (admittedly I don’t remember his prime years in the 80’s) Souness thwould be an absolute animal and would have an awesome moustache and perm :)

@RayS, what happened to the next Pele, Freddie Adu?

Doesn't he play in the Indian league now or something? He was a beast in FM a few years back

He turned out not to be the next Pele. He’s playing for... Las Vegas lol yes really. US 2nd division football

All those players certainly are “iconic” to anyone even remotely familiar with US soccer.

Can't get behind the "no Americans deserve being Icons" when we have Nakata, Lehmann, Luis Hernandez, Okocha, etc. (e.g. players that are deservingly "iconic" in one way or another, but not on the level of Maradona or Beckenbauer).

"Icons" are players that were important to the history of the sport. The definition is broad enough to include national team legends, popular players from world class teams, or extremely skilled/talented players.

Read somewhere that he's become a proper journeyman now, played in like 13 leagues or something. Think he's always rumoured to have had a bad attitude.

EA Headquarters are in California, but EA Vancouver develops FIFA specifially.

Dwayne De Rosario would be a cool Canadian Icon tho

Pretty much. He’s an example of a footballer with bags and bags of talent but didn’t stay in the right system or make the right moves or have the right attitude.

    I loved that counter-argument.

Also, millions of people believe that the Earth is flat or that vaccines are the leading cause of autism in the US. Doesn't make any of it true.

I genuinely don't care what the best league in the world is. I just didn't like the arrogance in your post, that's all.

It is pretty obvious that EA has gone with popular Premier League 90s/00s players for Icon selection. It's not a requirement, but pretty much every famous Premier League player is or has been a Legend/Icon in FUT.

If you google "best Premier League players ever":

    xQxGJYZ.png

The players not checkmarked are still active (but would assuredly get Icon cards when they retire).

We can agree that the Premier League is the most popular worldwide, but no other league gets this kind of preference for selection in FUT special cards.

Well they included Shearer so they set the bar very low obviously.

EA was founded in Canada though, which makes it Canadian :#

Anyway, about the topic in hand, I will say that perhaps in the near future, as many different countries as possible should get an icon card, as many were iconic in their part of the world at some point.

There has been so many talented and/or internationally iconic players in history, that you can't simply include everyone from the start. Next year has already included a bunch of new additions

But at the moment, I think focusing on players that were iconic globally/the most talented in history is the way to go before introducing others as mentioned above.

Iconic at least within our region yeah. I mean, you could make the same argument for some of the current Icons, i.e. that they were not Iconic beyond their region.
