Any UK Virgin Fibre 100/200mbps users here?

Care to share experiences? Been using BT for the last year and it's horrib, barely been able to play a game online. Thinking of switching over to Virgin on either to 100 or 200 mbps packages but looking for advice.

Is 200mbps overkill, will I notice a difference to 100? Currently using 50

I've got 200 and they slow it down considerably during busy times. The only times I clock it doing 200+ is during the day mon-fri which is no good for most! I still get disconnections and lag and my console is wired. I'm sure others will counter this, which probably means it's just luck whether you get your moneys worth or not!

I just don't understand it, it's all mumbo-jumbo to me.

I used to get better online gameplay 5+ years ago living at my mum's when we were on copper. That was like 10mbps if that!

I bet that is because you're on IPv6. Get on the blower to them, tell them to change you to IPv4, you won't have disconnects. It only takes them about 10 mins to change. I'm on the 200mbps package, but speed isn't that important for gaming. I only use 70% of my upload, download because that gives me the most stable connection.

The super hub router is bloody awful though, you need to buy a gaming router, set the super hub to bridge mode. I rarely disconnect in Fifa, but I did when VM had me on IPv6.

I have virgin 200. I never have a problem at all. No noticeable lag or slowdown. It just works. Appreciate I may be one of a lucky few considering all the moan threads that pop up but fifa or anything else I never have problems. Based on south east uk if that helps!

I've got the mbps package - it's ok but personally I will be going elsewhere in September when package finishes - I've had 3 major lots of service loss this year that I know about ! I only work from home about twice a month but call it 24 times this year I've had 4 and 5 hour outages, they are not my favourite company ethically either! I deal with them from time to time with work. Plus they've dropped channels on their digi package today to benefit shareholders financially at the cost of customers!- Also they seem to slow everything down on Friday and Saturday nights

Appreciate the advice on routers but for a casual like me I can't justify spending £300 on somethi g like that. I'd begrudgingly pay maybe £50 if there was something that's a better alternative to the super hub?

Guessing the 200 may be the way to go for piece of mind

You don't need to spend a fortune for a good gaming router, watch this video.

wont 200mb d/l cost you hundreds of £££££ per year?

a £300 router is expensive but its cheaper than going 200mb d/l

200mb a month with a tv package will cost me £45 a month, whereas 100mb a month with tv will cost about £35. That's £120 more per year. Will 100mb and a decent router in that 100 quid budget be better than 200mb and the basic virgin one?

    Cheers for all the advice

I have 350mb (actually get 450mb) never had a problem with it. Still face delay and bad gameplay in weekend league though but I guess that's down to the servers.

You guys have to use the right capitalization! Mbps (megabits pets second) or MBps (megabytes per second). It makes a huge difference.

I assume it’s the former, Mbps, if so that’s all you get for fiber service in the UK?

Yeah pretty much, that's t highest common package available, there are higher ones I think but it becomes silly money

Damn, that’s pretty poo. But I assume: regulations, infrastructure and another thousand variables limit what you can have in the UK.

I just have to say that I have a slow fiber connection and it’s 800 Mbps, the faster connections get the full gigabit (for prospective, I can download a a 60-70 GB game in about 30 minutes). My internet and phone is $75 per month and that’s including a rental charge.

I'm not from UK, but I have fiber 500/500 and I still gets lag when playing games wireless and when checking internet speed I usually get around 300/200. I don't think you will ever get what is advertised no matter where your from (I'm from Norway and use something called GET)

Speaking of virgin media, i switched to them but they forgot to install my services lmao. I called them and apparently there was never an appointment on their system even though i have the letter and email confirmation. Spoke to a manager and forwarded him the email ...he was gobsmacked and gave me the vip package for free . My new install date is 1st of august.

On virgin media they have a problem with hub 3 which causes latency in online gaming which has been going on for years. There rolling out a fix for the problem which you're only guaranteed in getting if you're on the 300 + package. If not you'll have to wait.

Same here. Only issue I have with fifa is input delay. EA need to add more servers in different locations.

It seems like the forum is divided. Saying that my internet is perfect for me yet someone 500 miles away in Scotland has the same company internet and it’s literally terrible

I believe there’s a website where you can check your local area if it’s good for certain internet
