Don’t get me wrong, I think England had a decent tournament but based on the opposition they faced and their road to the final, it has to be classed as another failure.
I like how people get all uppity about how England only got to the semis because we supposedly had an easy route, but don't mention that Croatia are in the final due to having an easy group (even Argentina were awful) and making hard work of beating three average teams in Denmark Russia and England in the knockout rounds.

whilst I am happy with our performance due to being awful in the Euros 2 years ago, it is undeniable that we had a relatively easy run to the semi finals, and tbh the main contributor to my disappointment was knowing this was such an unbelievable chance to get to a world cup final. That is not disrespectful in any way to Croatia (whose media actually behaved in a far more overconfident way than we did, if people didn't just rush to bash England at every chance), who are a class team.
Also it is not exactly bottling it if we have a midfield of Henderson, Lingard and Alli (who has been struggling all tourney) against Modric, Rakitic and Brozovic.
