OT: Carrasco to China!?

Just seen that Carrasco (and Gaitan) have both agreed moves to China.

Carrasco is only 24 years old, seems like a ridiculous thing to do for his career. Yes he's likely to earn a stupid amount of money but he could do that in his 30's after a career playing at the highest level.

This can only hamper his chances of being involved in Belgiums World Cup squad surely?!

Yeah I don't understand why he did that, besides the 10 million he will receive annual.

But they will still call him up for the national team no doubt.
Witsel is getting call ups and he plays there too

Whilst I do agree that he's most likely throwing his career away look at Paulinho, moving to China was probably the best thing he's done for his career.

Football is a job for these people. I don't blame him doubling/tripling his earnings at all.

That's a good shout actually, maybe it won't affect his national team call ups.

Yeah that's one player who has benefitted from a move to China ignoring financial gain. Though most people were wondering why Barca spent all that money on him when they did.

Whilst I agree that people should be free to move to clubs and earn what they like without being called mercenaries and all that, it just seems like a waste of a career. As a sports person I would be disappointed at not pushing myself to be the best I can be rather than just taking the easy option.

That's looking at it from the perspective of someone who enjoys the sport though. Saw a comment on Reddit yesterday along the lines of you'd be surprised at how many people play the game simply because they had no other options growing up or literally have no other usable skills to get a job. Carrasco could easily be one. He could quite honestly not give a ❤️❤️❤️❤️ about prestige in the game and just wants cash.

You are looking at it as a viewer though, for these players its a job and its about securing their future, he probably earns peanuts at Atletico compared to what China are offering, he could easily go to China for 1 year and earn a life changing amount of money then he can always come back if he wants, like you said hes only 24.

Yeah that is a possibility. I'm sure I read somewhere that Rob Green (ex England keeper) didn't enjoy playing at all, only done it because he was good and obviously the money is better than most jobs.

Not a bad move for him

Worst case he plays a few seasons in China and earns more in 3 years than he would over the rest of his career at atletico

Best case he pulls a paulinho, shines in china and winds up at a top club

I completely see where they're coming from as well. At a certain point the money outweighs the "do what you love" argument. You have to say to yourself I can do something I'm less than bothered about for a few years and have the rest of my life to enjoy the earnings or I can do the daily grind.
  • This move is only happened because a move to juventus failed in January. Like others have said tho I don't blame him or gaitan tbf.
