The thing with this forum is that there are so many kids (teens), who've never even played PES. They believe FIFA has always been king, but that was only really the case from 08ish. PES was really poor in that 08-15 period, but now things are changing and that's from someone who has played FIFA for 10 years straight now. This is the year I'm ditching FIFA and going back to PES. You can say I'll regret it or not but I need a change again!

You will be back......I play both games each year

Truth is that it wont even be mainly the gameplay that brings you back, the menu screens turn out to be very grim while waiting 5 minutes for a match, overall off the pitch its a very poor and cheap feel to the game.

Im a fan of both games but I like switching between both when one of them is annoying me.
See someone like yourself who has and does play both games, I respect and appreciate your opinion. And you're probably right I will be back at some point.

I just feel like I need something different from FIFA as it drives me crazy and I've no motivation to play it anymore. Actually excited to get my hands on PES next week, whether that excitement lasts is a completely different matter of course.

    Agree with this.
I like both games, and have been playing fifa since they first started(94 or 95), i never tried pes back then, i was the same as many people now and say it sucks without ever playing it, been playing pes now for the 2nd year in a row, no regrets.

I will get both games at release, its a nice change if one gets boring or frustrating to play.
Fifa i play to win, PES i play to have fun :)

PES is corny. The corny aesthetics and music, the pathetic names will never cease. Ok, but that is up to taste. And I get that people dig the Japanese vibe of the game. But lets be real, the game modes are subpar. The game still has traces of old-gen, and when I say old-gen I am referring to the PS2 era. The last version I played (16) did not have simple stuff like quick trow-ins and to play with a friend you had to create a lobby. The first squad updates were launched three months after release. The license deals are pathetic and all they do is cause minor dents in FIFA. As a fan of the Champions league you do not have all 32 teams from the group stage available. The licences are just for show, not for feel. I have seen some arguments that EA is killing the competition and hence is inducing some stagnation in what comes to real innovation in the game, but as far as I am concerned FIFA 17 marked a turning point by investing tremendously on the competitive side, and I see that as a real source of innovation. Now, there is a real reason to make a more balanced game, in order to attract more players to competitive. Lets face it, FIFA is the king of sales, now all it has to do is to turn its own massive player base to the competitive side (basically more money spent on FPs). The aim is not to steal players from the small PES community . So please let me indulge and say that FIFA and the scene would be even better if PES did not exist, as there would be more licences to buy and make the game feel even more authentic. PES is just a little annoyance at this point. Sorry PES fans, its the truth. Your community is just to small, and that is ok, if you are in to that sort of thing.

I also feel that the game mechanics are too different. For a FIFA fan taking on PES, the dribbling and its disregard for the right analog button is just to alien. Not to mention set pieces, shooting and passing mechanics. I am not saying that one is better than the other, just saying that they are very very different, making a comparison between the two games very difficult.

Honestly, from my perspective as a FIFA fan, trying to convince a FIFA fan to switch to PES is the same thing than trying to convince a race enthusiast to ride in horse races instead. PES and FIFA at this point are two complete different passtimes. This does not mean that they cannot be both enjoyed by their own fans, but it does mean that they are standing farther and farther apart, and this is reflected on their fanbases and ever increasingly metaphysical debates such as this one. But I can tell as someone who organizes local FIFA tournaments I was able to turn some PESheads into FIFA enthusiasts, but I have never seen anyone in my community do the opposite thing. PES will never be better than FIFA, simply because it will be always different than FIFA. Its hard to explain, but I know that many people will agree with me.

So, as I said before. This thread is meaningless.

I can say the more I play PES the more I become accustomed to PES physics. And I really like it. The Player camera seems me like I'm on a real pitch!

Still have not decided what to buy. I'm waiting for the FIFA demo.
I won't buy them both at the start because I don't have so much time to play two games in one period. So the best will be bought at the start for a full price and the second one will be bought at Christmas sales for 50% price off.

Option files with non official player stats? No thanks.. And who cares about option files when you can only use them offline? I don't play offline anymore... especially not on PES, mode saren't good and playing the AI is frustratingly easy.

Exactly. And option files just change kits and player names from what I understand. In order to have all 32 teams such as Besiktas and some other teams you have to replace already existing teams or something like that. Stone age stuff if you ask me. Not to mention that PES does not have weekly updates, not even updated transfers at the begining of the game. Its just to retro for me. If PES is all about gameplay as their fans claim fine so be it, assume it and take action: Name all the teams BJ RED (as I shown before, this is a real team name they assigned in the game) and POV DIAMOND and leave all the licenses to FIFA please, stop making these exlusive half baked deals that are just ridiculous and "steal" some content from FIFA. Offcourse they will never do it, gameplay is not just game physics. Licenses matter and they know it, they package and market the game heavily around the deals they manage to make such as the Barça deal. And so does atmosphere, weekly updated stats and in the age we live in, online gaming. So no, PES will not be better than FIFA, its incomparable. And gameplay wise I am sorry to disapoint PES fans but PES is not that great in that department either. It does not have driven shots, driven passes. Auto-feint is an atrocious feature in the game. I could go on an on. I am shure FIFA might be missing other features that PES has, but if the objective is to sway people to the PES camp, PES fans have to do better than calling FIFA players "sheep" and claiming some sort off high moral ground about fighting EA and their plans for world domination. Its time to face the music and at least claim some features for PES that FIFA has since the ps3 days, that PES never bothered to implement.

Sorry to say it guys but if FIFA doesn't improve this year pes will once again be better everyone goes for FIFA moretime coz its FIFA and a lot of us grow up on FIFA but the reality they are ripping us off it hasn't been good for at least the last 3/4 FIFAs now where as pes I think is improving year after year and they got the licensing for champs league and europa FIFA has become a shambles and the game I onced loved has totally gone the defending is awful and unrealistic now if you actually play football you will know what i mean and there's nothing to look forward to other then the journey if they do one season again for that FIFA will be even more of a shambles and the sad thing is they will never improve it to how we want yet we the ones that buy the game and spend money the least they can do is create it for our Benefit and joy something needs to be done or pes is gunna be the game this year for me and a lot of other people

am done with fifa17, i guess i will just move to pes this year. check my discussions already mentioned alot of deficits in this game

Fifa17: switching players is ultra terrible
    defending is ultra terrible
friendly AI intelligence is ultra stupid, ball rolls around players and they simply leave it move
alot of glitchs and bugs and unrealistic shots , try to shoot a falling ball? it goes very slow xD best physics ever

you are just a propaganda follower who don't really understand what he should get, so i think, such mentalities are the reason why EA don't care about enhancing fifa anymore as long as they are milking cash from this type of gamers

Nah i do my own research ;p

If you wanna talk truth then EA doesnt deserve the fifa license either. Fifa will ways be a arcade game, 50 skill moves in a row with any player without getting tired being and able to sprint in a straith line after 50 spins, very realistic.

The thing EA shines at is shiny graphics, but gameplay is going downhill.

You can juggle like that in fifa as well so it's pointless to argue. But you can also do 50 spins in PES and your player won't start zig zagging before uncontrollably falling down to ground in dizziness. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Wow, where to start with this? Before I get slated for being a PES fanboy, I played both games last year and will probably play both this year. I'm just pointing out that almost every part of your comment is completely wrong.

    1. No, you don't have to replace existing teams. PES has dummy teams/leagues which are used by the option file creators, so they'll just replace a dummy league with Bundesliga for example. The dummy teams in the dummy league will be replaced by Bayern, Schalke etc. No need to replace existing teams.

    2. Player names do not need to be updated - PES has the player licenses so the names are already correct. It's not like the old days of Bryan Gibbs the Welsh winger.

    3. There are weekly form updates in PES. Updated transfers was a big problem in PES 16 but it was fixed in 17 as far as I can remember.

    4. No-one claims it's "all about the gameplay", if that was the case then option files wouldn't be as popular as they are. Of course licenses matter, and Konami make far better use of the few licenses it has than EA make of all theirs.

    5. I don't see anyone trying to sway FIFA players to the PES camp, just pointing out that the game is good in it's own right and people should give it a chance. Personally I like both games for different reasons, and play both. EA fanboys generally disregard PES without even trying it - or playing 2 games - with the usual "MyClub is awful", "Haha Mersey Red" etc.

I have to admit. Its the first reasonable comment countering my arguments I have seen so far. After being impressed by the demo I bought PES 2016 and regretted it immensely at the time for all the issues I listed above. Never touched the game after FIFA 16 came out. But I can see they fixed a lot of stuff. I am going to download the demo of 18 right now and give it a fair try.
  • Well, according to SteamSpy, PES 2017 sold around 190k copies on PC and just yesterday there were 3300 concurrent players. That is more or less double the number of players than FIFA 17 for PC.

Make that what you want, but at least for PC, and with Konami bringing parity between the PS4/XBOne versions to PC this time, I will try it out. Specially with the Brazilian League fully licensed.

I'm buying both. I'm done with UT it takes over your life. Weekend league, trading 24/7 to get a decent team, plus never play my others games because of grinding coins to get c player and that player. It hasn't really changed in the last 3 years other the cosmetics (gameplay) I had pes on Xbox last year I really enjoyed the concept of my club but getting a game online was difficult took 5 mins sometimes. I changed to ps4 and understand there is a more activity community and lot more players so giving it another go. It's only £34.50 so if it's the same on ps4 I can trade in before Fifa drops.

I'm still getting Fifa as my mates are and playing pro clubs is the best thing online on any game. Love it. I'll stick to pro clubs and seasons.

That being said I said all this last year and got dragged back into UT by January. This year though cod and battlefront are out and I want to give them my time and finally get stuck into Skyrim and also fancy getting the Witcher 3.

Well, according to SteamSpy, PES 2017 sold around 190k copies on PC and just yesterday there were 3300 concurrent players. That is more or less double the number of players than FIFA 17 for PC.

Make that what you want, but at least for PC, and with Konami bringing parity between the PS4/XBOne versions to PC this time, I will try it out. Specially with the Brazilian League fully licensed.

Steam is way bigger than Origin, and PES for PC is so cheap, I bought it but almost never played it :p
But in general, FIFA sold 40 times more than PES.

Age plays a part in transitioning from FIFA ut to pes
