Cavani isn't even playing centrally in most of his games. :joy:

On current form Giroud is better. Cavani would not be a worthwhile improvement to Giroud for the price he is going for.

why waste 60m on Cavani when we supposedly could of bought M.Gomez for that years ago? :(

he comes with a free button too...

Then Giroud must be good enough. So is Coquelin. Mertesacker and Ospina have always been great anyway. It looks like a cheap summer.

Giroud in the form of his life... may as well just go back to being pessimistic and bin him off before next season. Mertesacker and Ospina are always terrible, Coquelin is just a short term fix, should do much better in that position.

There is not too many positions where we can improve a lot. Possibly someone experienced who know how to play as CDM and CB or back up for Giroud when he's out of form.

And in case we will get rid of BFG we would need new CB.

After all these years, there's no need to spend a lot of money this summer.

Giroud is good enough at the moment, only a fool would deny that. His career shows that he's someone who improves with every season, you have to trust that this current patch is something he can sustain on the long run. It would be nice to have another option in case he falters but a new first team striker should not be on the agenda.
  • If you enlighten me on anything Cavani has done that's impressive since his time in Ligue 1, I'm keen to listen. He's the least impressive of any of their front 4 constantly. Giroud has been improving constantly ever since he came. He was brilliant last year, even better this year. Surely there comes a time when it's not just form and you accept how good he is and how poor Cavani is and has been. I'm sure most watchers of Ligue 1 will enlighten you on the amount of chances he misses too. Yes he plays second fiddle to Ibra, of which he's then shipped out to the wing, that's no excuse though. He gets more than enough chances to have scored 20+ both seasons...

Giroud was an absolute donkey last year

Started off brilliant then played average around Christmas, came back to form in the latter stages. No surprising really as he was our only striker so being burnt out when games are so frequent with no one to take your place, it's standard.

I'm far from Giroud's biggest fan but he's been brilliant this whole season.

That statement is no longer viable, he's had more than enough chances in the middle. He was an absolute choker against Chelsea in both legs this season and last, his goal record at Napoli was immense (104 goals in 138 games) but one of those players hanging on to an old reputation.

Zlatan will leave PSG soon though and then if he's still there he'll get a real chance to prove himself.

I don't think he's a top striker. But between him and Giroud it's no contest ability wise. A few good months don't really matter. The striker market is relatively dry, if you miss out on Dybala, Cavani would be a good choice.

No one is going to dispute that Cavani is better than Giroud ability wise (and other aspects of his game too) but for the pricetag slapped on him, he is not a worthwhile signing for us. That is the argument.

It's weird that one of Ozil's best mates in our team is Flamini. Wouldn't imagine it. Always see those two together in the after game pictures, or in training. Then again, apparently Flamini is one of the nicest guys off the pitch. Probably the model professional.

Why don't we just disregard these past three months entirely and pretend we're still sixth?

Just watched the u21 game vs Stoke. Wilshere, Diaby, Gnabry and Arteta played. Diaby played quite well and Wilshere looked very good. Alex Iwobi scored a hat trick, two of the goals were fantastic solo goals. He is a great dribbler, no surprise he is Jay Jay Okotcha's nephew.

On the whole our U21's are so bad, we're lucky to have players injured often enough to carry them through the league.

Man there are so many Arsenal transfer rumors, it's crazy. Several sources are saying that Wenger is eyeing Brahimi and one source says that Lucas could come to the Emirates. And the Metro says that Arsenal could get Arbeloa..... Probably not true. Thoughts?

Arbeloa makes no sense whatsoever when you have Bellerin, a player who intelligently models himself after Glen Johnson.

I highly doubt any will happen. Unfortunately, as Bob alludes to, Arbeloa is probably the most likely of the lot.

Arbeloa  when we have Debuchy, Jenks and Bellerin? Not long before were linked to Gourcuff again.

When were you linked with the great Gourcuff?

I could see Wenger getting Gignac in the summer, on the back of a good season and his contract is up right now....
