United probably favourites for *3rd* at this point.

    Fixed it.

Kane's out for months and Son's at the asian cup for a few weeks.

Yeah, I forgot about Spurs. Hopefully they drop some points over the next couple of months. Besides a few games, they haven't even been that great this season. About time their luck ran out. Things could get interesting

Agreed. Very similar teams too in that both sides are good going forward and have basically mid-table level defenses.

What would your combined XI be?

    De Gea
    Bellerin - Sokratis - Lindelof - Shaw

    Torreira
    Ramsey - Pogba
    Aubameyang - Rashford - Martial

Seems like everybody basically agrees on 9 of 11 players.

    For me:
    de Gea
    Bellerin---Sokratis---Lindelof---Shaw
    Torreira---Herrera
    Pogba
    Rashford---Aubameyang---Martial

Let’s be honest here. Imagine him in a free role, number 10, tasked with no defensive work, with Aubameyang, Martial, Rashford and Pogba around him.

We're getting way too nuanced for a combined XI, but doing that would basically neuter Pogba's forward output.

If that was the setup, you'd want a different player next to Torreira.

I don’t think it would. Didn’t he play there for France in the World Cup?

You wouldn’t really need Pogba’s forward output with that front 4 anyway.

Then it comes down to Pogba vs. Özil TBH. I know who I’m going with.

Not really because there’s no one better than Pogba to have next to Torreira in the midfield 2.

He had Matuidi and Kante behind him effectively.

Having watched him every week for United, I think I can say that I never want to see Pogba play anywhere other than at 10 in a 4-2-3-1 or in a midfield 3.

In essence, he needs two more defensive minded midfield players behind him at all times. I reckon most United fans would agree with that general premise.

    But he isn’t

Pogba > Özil; Torreira and Herrera/Matić can play behind him.

You lot had Sokratis playing ahead of Smalling :D

Even Bailly is ahead of Sokratis.

Let's be honest. Even between the two clubs, it's basically Lindelof and an island of misfit toys at CB.

He put Bellerin in ffs, if anything he’s being generous.

Granted, Bailly would probably work out better than Sokratis TBH.

On a slightly different note, the Ozil situation seems crazy to me. I wonder if he’ll leave soon?

Same problem as Alexis. He’s evidently on 350K/week.

Nobody except a club in China is paying that.

    De Gea
    Bellerin-Koscielny-Lindelof-Shaw
    Torriera
    Ramsey-Pogba
    Rashford-Lacazette-Martial

Defence is tough. Bellerin gets in there easily. Koscielny is the best center back from both teams when in form (like he was today). Both teams have a lot of defenders who are great on their day, but are inconsistent or unreliable.
