No, the gameplay does need a small overhaul, having someone to score with a through pass is a normal matter, though. You can still use RB/A - LT to defend. The pace of the game needs a soft change. And the passing accuracy for short passes. I mean come on, interceptions are as easy as hell here...

The soft passes are inconsistent. Sometimes for a simple 5 yard pass you need 3/4s of the power and sometimes you over shoot it with just 1/4th of the power
Yeah the passing is out of whack, the ball feels like it's deflated when passing, and the Y/triangle pass is crazy overpowered as mentioned defenders don't respond to it.
