Hello to the /r/FIFA community, I am SSROCK. I have played FIFA all my life, from FIFA 04 - FIFA 18. I have seen FIFA when it was good, and when it was bad. Believe me when I say EA almost had the perfect FIFA when 18 released, but...
I figure this is the best time to approach EA, with all the backlash Battlefront 2 is getting. I am very proud of the Battlefront 2 community, they are protesting something that they all care deeply about, and that is what we need to do aswell. FIFA has been on a steady decline over the last few years with "FIFA Ultimate Team" taking over the game. FIFA Ultimate Team (abbreviated FUT) is EA's version of microtransactions. It's a game mode where you earn coins by playing, competing in weekend league (FIFA's "competitive" mode), and buying/selling players with coins to complete your dream team.
FIFA Points are the premium currency, which you can only buy with money. You buy "packs" with them, you can buy a Premium Gold Pack for either 7,500 Coins, or 150 FIFA Points ($1.50). Or a normal Gold Pack for either 5,000 Coins, or 100 FIFA Points ($1).
That may sound OK, but here's the thing:
The packs are completely RNG and have terrible drop rates, you can either spend $1.50 and get the best player in the game, or spend thousands of dollars and get NOTHING. People with the best team in the game have spent a whopping $8,000+ to acquire it, which is absurd especially for a yearly game.
EA changed the game from launch, Launch FIFA 18 was incredibly smooth, it felt like the best FIFA game ever, to many. I bought the game days after launch watching gameplay, and boy was it amazing. Goalkeepers/Long shots needed a slight nerf, which is what the entire community wanted. Alas, EA made the game terrible, and NOT WHAT PEOPLE PURCHASED. They changed EVERYTHING, defending is now fully assisted, gameplay feels slow, goalkeepers save almost every shot, and the game is not fun nor competitive anymore. EA made the game cater to casuals after the patch.
Weekend League, FIFA's competitive mode, is very unhealthy, and EA refuse to listen. Weekend League lasts from Friday night, to Sunday night. For the player to complete all his games in the mode, he/she has to complete 40, yes 40, games. The player cannot have a casual weekend if he/she wants to finish them all, the community wants Weekend League to be Friday night, to Monday night. 4 days, 10 games a day, now that isn't as bad. But as of now, 40 games in a 3 day period is just insane. Games last around average 12-20 minutes. Not to mention the Weekend League is utterly stupid, and should just have a ranking system like every other MOBA.
EA only cares about FUT, not giving gamemodes such as Pro Clubs/Career mode barely any, if any at all, updates. Not to mention Pro Clubs Friendly's do not work currently and many Pro Clubs leagues rely on that. FUT brings in the money and that is all they care about, they even removed online team play with allowed players to play as one person on a national/league team, with other people online. Each player controlled one player on the team, it was 11v11 awesomeness. Oh, and Pro Clubs drop-ins where you create your own player and play online/impove your overall, was made to be 5v5 and used to be 11v11, why?
Leveling in the EASFC catalogue, is broken. New players can't level at all and buy celebrations/boots/coin boosts/etc. This has been broken SINCE LAUNCH, and EA doesn't care.
Penalties, they are far from skill based and really completely random. Especially irritating is the current "glitch" where the player can shoot the penalty in a certain spot (bottom left center, or bottom right center) and it goes through the goalkeepers arm/legs even if you go the right way. As seen here: https://streamable.com/6tvpv
PC cheating, yes this is not exactly easy to fix but it is being abused consistently. What is harder to report/play against is the Legacy Defending setting cheat that works online. FIFA on PC is already at a disadvantage regarding Weekend League rewards & fewer cards on the market, but they also have to deal with this -- it is very important.
(EA WON'T CONFIRM THIS, BUT MANY PRO & MOST OF THE FIFA COMMUNITY BELIEVE THIS TO BE TRUE) Momentum is bigger than ever this year, and makes the game not competitive in the slightest. People who aren't great at the game now can win against someone who is far better. "Momentum" kicks in once the player is losing by a few goals, it suddenly makes the winning opponent's players sluggish and player switching unresponsive, and tries to help the player score against the winning player.
There is also a kickoff boost, where when the player concedes, the opponent gets a definite boost and has a higher chance to score off kickoff. Please note, this has been a rumor for years, and though it is blatantly obvious to many -- I can say this is NOT a fact. We are all hoping EA admit this exists, as there used to be a momentum bar in previous FIFA's -- that is not the case with the newer iterations.
There are many, many, other problems with FIFA year after year. We NEED to do something about it.
Here's what you can do
Boycott Black Friday - FIFA's biggest promotion with deals & promo packs, and buying FIFA points in general. I know there are a lot of you who are like "i'll buy FIFA points, i'm only one person" but seriously, if we all band together and stop buying microtransactions -- it will have an impact on EA. It may not be a big impact, but they will notice. Hurt them where it matters, their wallets.
Tweet @EASPORTSFIFA, we'll be using hashtag #FIXFIFA. Believe me, if this explodes it will have a big impact, look at how they reacted to the Battlefront community. If you don't have much time, just Tweet the hashtag at them. It helps the case.
If you're a big/a YouTuber, PLEASE join the movement. You will seriously help our cause and will be a huge impact on all of this. Make a 2 minute video, or make a long video discussing everything in this post/whats wrong with FIFA currently. The more attention it gets, the better.
Please /r/FIFA -- join the protest, for the game we all want to enjoy.
